Endometriosis is a disease of multiple organs, requiring as such multidisciplinary care. Treated mainly in specialist centres, a multidisciplinary team can consist of general surgeons with experience in colorectal surgery, urologist, thoracic surgeons as well as infertility specialists, endometriosis specialists, nurses, psychologists and so on. Various studies have looked at the importance of MDT in endometriosis. One of them conducted by an NHS UK team, highlights the benefits of MDT: - coordinated efforts between specialists with expertise in their disciplines in the management of a patient. - ensure higher quality decision-making, reduced incidence of questionable practices, standardised patient care and improved outcomes. - a full range of therapeutic options are considered early so patients receive appropriate and timely treatments. #ace #drdinos #endometriosisspecialist #endometriosiscare #endometriosisexcision

IONM should be gold standard in so many surgeries

An increasing number of hospitals — including here at Stanford Health Care — are using intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) to monitor changes to the nervous system during surgery. IONM can allow surgeons to intervene in time in case a stroke or other neurologic injury occurs during an operation. But is reimbursing IONM worth it for health insurers? In collaboration with UPMC, Boston University School of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine, and Duke University, we assessed the cost-benefit of utilizing IONM during cardiac surgery in the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases.
