I was honoured to be asked to be a guest author on the thorny subject of moving from an all elected Board to a blended version which includes appointed members. So many professional membership organisations are struggling to evolve their governance structure but the rewards, most noticeably in terms of achieving greater diversity, are significant for those that have done so. Read more about this here and let me know what you think. https://lnkd.in/eraSwWuW

Company Director | Venture Builder | Board Director -Executive/ Non-Executive | Advisory Board Member | Coach & Mentor
A sense of entitlement belongs no where- but especially not in the board of directors space, where it has been a constant paradigm since class, privilege and business first arose in human society. My test? If you truly believe you are entitled to a board position simply because of who you perceive yourself to be, then I would say no. ( this is not to be confconfused with believing you can bring true value to the board and the organization from their perspective, not yours) I would also add, if you covet the board position, you shouldn’t be there- because your true independent judgment of what’s best for the organization, its staff, stakeholders and customers, will be clouded by your own self preservation. #governance #aicd #oversight #boardofdirectors #companydirector #entitlement #priveledge #responsibility Australian Institute of Company Directors Evan Dukas Anand Tatavarthi Lyn George
Brilliant coverage and the examples are spot on. Good to see such a respected director as Catherine Livingstone leading the way and driving the conversation on board tenure and diversity of thinking. During my 11 years leading SOCA, I have heard stories from Chamber Execs who were pressured by their Board of Directors to grow membership to unrealistic levels based on their service area. That's why we created the MemberForecast for our Chambers of Commerce. This 5-minute video could save you and your Board a lot of time, effort, frustration and burnout before you try doubling your membership. Chamber on!

Determining the visual design of a Strategic Plan is important for an organization, and that was my latter stage work for our 2023-2026 Strategic Plan. Our Board had a great vision of how they hoped their Plan could be presented: with a fluidity of design, representing how the goals interweave; with colour and icon distinctions to easily identify each goal and its objectives; and with a move away from a numeric identification of goals, using instead key words to signal the equal importance of each goal in the Plan. This Plan will guide the work of the B.C. Principals' & Vice-Principals' Association over the next three years, and we are excited to be underway! https://bit.ly/BCP_SP2326
Every three years, the B.C. Principals' & Vice-Principals' Association Board of Directors reviews the priorities of our Association and crafts a detailed Strategic Plan for the years to come. We are so pleased to share the 2023-2026 plan that represents the work we will do on behalf of our members. https://lnkd.in/ga44i8Ad
