According to Becker’s, “they are dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care, advancing research and ushering in innovative medical solutions and discoveries. In selecting Dr. Megerian for the list, Becker’s noted that “as CEO, Dr. Megerian oversees the strategic plan for University Hospitals, which comprises an annual revenue of approximately $6 billion, over 32,000 employees, 21 hospitals with five joint ventures, more than 50 health centers and outpatient facilities, and over 200 physician offices throughout 16 counties. This data snapshot provides partial summaries of the results from the 2022-2023 Survey on the Compensation of the Dean's Office Staff (DOS) and the AAMC's Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS) Benchmarking Survey from 2023. The report describes administrative areas within the medical school's dean's office that are most and least likely to hold a senior associate or vice dean title and which are most likely to report directly to the dean. Count ranges and deciles of decanal roles are also shared. Determining the appropriate quantity, seniority, and reporting of decanal positions is highly unique to each school; however, medical school leaders may find this snapshot useful in comparing their current and future states to current national ranges.

Frist, Jr. College of Medicine, we are creating a resource for thought leaders and innovators to study, implement, and scale innovations incorporating HSS that improve healthcare delivery. In this article, I discuss how health systems science (HSS) can improve clinical trials by examining how healthcare system components interact and influence patient care. By integrating policy, financial considerations, and emerging technologies like AI, HSS aims to create more equitable and effective health outcomes. This approach can lead to more inclusive and successful clinical trials. I want to share a resource for academic and clinical leaders for integrating the Structural and Social Determinants of Health into our practice to move our systems towards health equity. Chapter 4 shares a history of bias in nursing research and publishing, the results of a bibliometric study of racism in nursing literature, and a scoping review of effective programs to diversify the biomedical workforce. Two weeks ago, I enrolled in McGill University's Reimagining Global Health course, led by Madhukar Pai, MD, PhD. With my Master's in Public Health on the horizon, I sought to delve deeper into my own motivations and position within the realm of global health. It became clear to me that addressing the systemic inequities in global health requires each of us to engage in personal reflection and action. During the course, I was challenged to confront my existing perceptions of global health and the ways in which my actions may perpetuate inequalities. This process led me to realize how deeply ingrained my beliefs are, shaped by my cultural background. I grappled with the uncomfortable truth of my position within the colonial power matrix that perpetuates conflict and instability globally. Thirusha Naidu's session on Epistemic Disobedience resonated deeply with me, as I recognized the resistance to confronting these conflicts within myself. Naidu's insights on the coloniality entrenched within modern medicine emphasized the importance of decolonizing approaches not only in global health but also in medical education and practice, prompting me to reflect also on my clinical work as a physician. Further interventions, as for examples Stephanie Nixon's application of the Coin Model to global health, coupled with questions like "What is my work to do and what is not?" and "How can I address an individual request for care/help while also disrupting systems of oppression?" encouraged me to consider my responsibilities as a privileged individual in this discourse. Overall, the course equipped me with invaluable tools and vocabulary to engage in meaningful discussions about this issues and underscored the necessity of remaining open and receptive to the voices and feedbacks of those advocating for the dismantling of oppressive structures. Today will be my 4th medical student research symposium event that I've coordinated and it's a wonderful time to see all of the bench and clinical research the current second year medical students did their first year. As we know bench and clinical science is very important, but I would like to talk about the importance of social science research (in regard to public health and its importance). Public health research is essential for improving population health, preventing diseases, and promoting well-being on a global scale. It provides the scientific foundation for developing effective health policies, interventions, and programs that address the needs of communities. By studying health trends, behaviors, and risks, researchers can identify emerging health issues, such as the spread of infectious diseases, chronic illnesses, and environmental hazards, allowing for timely and evidence-based responses. This research helps inform public health policies that shape healthcare systems and community health practices. For example, research on vaccination efficacy, sanitation practices, and the social determinants of health has led to life-saving interventions and improved healthcare access for underserved populations. Public health research is also crucial in addressing health disparities by highlighting the factors that contribute to unequal health outcomes among different racial, socioeconomic, or geographic groups. In addition, public health research plays a critical role in promoting preventive care. It emphasizes the importance of healthy behaviors and lifestyle changes, reducing the burden of preventable diseases and improving overall life expectancy. #SpeakingofScience: Eight researchers from Virginia Commonwealth University’s #healthsciences schools joined over 250 advocates in Washington, D.C., to highlight the critical role of #federalfunding in advancing #healthresearch. The annual #RallyforMedicalResearch is a key platform to advocate for making The National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding a national priority. In fiscal 2023 alone, VCU received nearly $107 million in #NIH support. The rally gave researchers a chance to share their work directly with lawmakers and underscore how essential funding is for advancing health outcomes.
