Joining an early seed-stage startup is always a risky bet, even with the best of economic backdrops. Unfortunately, earlier this week, I, along with many other talented engineers, designers, sales/CS, and product folks, was impacted by a company layoff as the team decided to shift operations away from remote and instead localize to Cleveland. While my time with Felux was shorter than I had hoped, it was a thrill working tirelessly to disrupt the immensely neglected steel industry – a staid business at the heart of global industry. A huge thank you to Tom Slade, my boss and mentor, for believing in the vision of product analytics and providing the latitude to build, test, and learn. I want to also thank 🚀 Dallas Hogensen and Chris Day for quickly bringing me into the fold on day one and placing full confidence in me to own company analytics for both the business and the customer. As far as support, I would be tremendously grateful to those willing to make introductions, sharing/liking this for further reach, sending over any opportunities that may be a good fit, and providing advice. The roles I plan to narrow my search on include product/business analytics, chief of staff, data science, and data engineering. Firsthand, I have observed that executing on creative endeavors is 10X as difficult when a team is geographically dispersed. For this reason, I’m also restricting my search to teams based here in Austin, TX or a hybrid option that budgets for occasional travel. I’m excited to see what the remaining team makes of the opportunity ahead, and best of luck to my former colleagues that find themselves in a similar situation. Working from home with your dog? 🐶🐶🐶 Well this poem is for you (and your dog of course)! It's a moving 3-Part poem (called #ZoomDog) in which I and my dog Milo bravely describe the challenges we face working together from home, and how we collaborate to find mutually acceptable solutions. Milo doesn't hold back with some of his views, but that's what I like about him as a co-worker dog, he doesn't shirk the tough conversations!
