Earlier this week, in collaboration with CIMA, we brought together a panel of industry leaders on a webinar to discuss the intersection of sustainability and finance for ESG and CSRD implementation, specifically. The panel discussed the pivotal role of finance in double materiality and shared insights on: - CFO & CSO Collaboration: Sophie Graham from IFS emphasized the importance of strong relationships with finance teams. Areas of focus include risk management, disclosure, and strategic alignment. - Auditor Engagement: The panel discussed effective ways to engage with external auditors, ensuring transparency and accurate reporting. - Opportunity Generation: Dr Jeremy Osborn FCMA, CGMA, CPA (Aust.) from AICPA highlighted the need to view sustainability not just as risk mitigation but also as an opportunity for positive change. - Stakeholder Management: Jimmy Greer explored how finance plays a crucial role in meeting client and stakeholder needs. Examples include ESG reporting and impact assessments. - Regulatory Outlook: While the CSRD brings clarity, the speakers discussed the adaptability required by CFOs and how they should approach this regulation. - Strategic Approach: Sophie urged a shift in the conversation—beyond mere disclosure—to sustainable value creation. Finance rigor is essential for driving impact.
