The Fourth of July is all about friends, family, food, fun, freedom—and fireworks! 🎆🎇 While enjoying the night sky lit up, it's important to remember that fireworks, while beautiful, are still explosives and extremely dangerous. Emergency departments nationwide see a spike in firework- and sparkler-related injuries this time of year, particularly to the eyes. "It’s not worth the risk to you or your child’s eye health to skip the necessary precautions when near sparklers, firecrackers and fireworks, so we encourage parents to talk to their kids about fireworks safety before the holiday," say Dartmouth Health Children's pediatric ophthalmologists Erin Salcone, MD, and Janine Eagle, MD. See their tips for enjoying fireworks safely this Independence Day. 🇺🇸 https://bit.ly/3W63kwI

Medical Expertise for enhancing legal cases | Nurse | Med/Surg & Cardiac RN | Nature & water loving gal
This is the video I had to watch in orientation to demonstrate proper hand hygiene. She doesn't mention that when you do wash your hands, the actual 'rubbing hands together with soap' part (all of what she demonstrated here) needs to take at least 20 seconds. The 20 seconds does not include rinsing with water. 20 seconds doesn't sound like a long time, right? As a nurse, it seems like it takes FOREVER! I want to give you a simple challenge today. When you wash your hands, count to 20 seconds. Let me know in the comments what you think about how long it takes. I'm curious to know if you feel like it takes as long as it seems to take to me! Also, another tidbit to notice: Soap is clear and white. It does not show up like this purple paint, so we cannot see if we truly are getting in all of these places. Obviously, we also cannot see all of the microscopic "bugs" on our hands. Just something to think about. I know this is so basic, but it's the # 1 most important way to help prevent the spread of infections. You don't have to be in healthcare to implement this practice into your life.
