When buying a franchise, you want to have the lease agreement carefully reviewed. We're talking about the location where you will set up your business, it's a defining factor that you cannot disregard. Negotiating the lease goes further than paying a fair rent. It's about ensuring the place is apt, safe, and competitive. Did it ever cross your mind that your lease agreement needs to ensure compliance with the Disabilities Act? Or that it needs to have a provision that specifies what happens if you are relocated? So many things slip to non-lawyers, and it's fine because franchisees are not responsible for that! It is the franchise lawyer's job to ensure that you enter a fair and profitable agreement and that you minimize every chance of failure. With an attorney by your side, you can have peace of mind and a positive mindset.

Yes, Danya Shakfeh, the lease is one of the most important items with a brick and mortar franchise. Using an attorney on the lease is critical to the performance of the franchise, especially when times are tough. I saw so many positives and negatives come from landlords during covid. Good franchises make sure their franchisees work with good landlords with good agreements. It can make or break a business.
