Here's a fun one that I reckon we will NOT get a definitive answer for... but let's take a crack anyway. What do you call the different retail businesses owned by a single entity when referring down from that entity? JD Sports, for example, on their corporate site call JD, Size?, Finish Line etc: Brands. Kroger call King Soopers, Ralphs, etc: Banners. Kingfisher appear to call their businesses: Retail Banners. I was brought up to call them 'facias'. I've even heard 'marquees' regularly. Banner has always 'felt' American (though as is often the way, it is a pure old English word, where facia is Latin). #retail

I have written about Walmart before but I have a different thought and question. Let’s start off with the good. The ability to sell direct and join a consolidator to get the benefit of full truck loads shipped sounds great. And even better, usually not just 100-200 doors as Walmart typically does a larger launch. And no promos…. Even better!!! Without the ability to discount and have that nice pretty, yellow and red/blue discount tag flash amongst your eyes (I’m color blind but I think I’m close!, how do you gain trial as a new brand????? The number one thing I have found to be challenging is marketing at Walmart. I know they have some of their direct programs, but if your a mature brand without a National, known presence, how do people know you exist across the country? Would love for everyone to share with me effective marketing strategies at Walmart / a wholistic plan. I have brands I work with ask me “what do other brands do” and quite honestly, I don’t have an answer for them that I can stand behind. Help me construct my answer when I’m asked!!!! The same year saw the emergence of three retail titans: Walmart, Kmart, and Target. Kmart and Target flourished in large cities with financial might, while Walmart, the underdog, steadily expanded in smaller towns. Today, Walmart, once an underdog, reports the world highest revenue exceeding $600 billion Walmart has maintained its edge via various strategies such as Cost Leadership, Supply Chain Efficiency, and Large Supercentres.
