In human medicine, the ability to measure frailty is a vital aspect of geriatric care. Soon, frailty will also be an important consideration in caring for pets. —Ultimately, measuring frailty is an important part of the Dog Aging Project's overall mission of helping dogs live longer, healthier lives. The DAP is creating the Frailty Instrument for Dogs, or "FIDo," that will be used to make health decisions and personalize geriatric veterinary care for real dogs of all shapes and sizes. I’m delighted to share that I have started a new position as Senior Scientist at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University in Boston. I continue to lead the Dog Aging Project, and look forward to new collaborations with my Boston colleagues!

We're excited to introduce the Dog Aging Project to the global scientific community today in the pages of Nature! This explains our methodology and lets other scientists know what kind of data we can share fueling discovery worldwide. Our team hopes to create a resource with the power to transform veterinary medicine, aging research, and many scientific and non-scientific fields of inquiry. Publication of the methodology in Nature provides testament to the ambitious scope and wide applicability of the project. It has taken years of work to get to this point for our interdisciplinary team across the University of Washington, Texas A&M University, Princeton University and a dozen other institutions.
