The Power of Israel and the Jewish Lobby: A Controversial Reality Writing about Israel and the Jewish lobby is like sticking your hand down the mouth of a lion; it often leads to online insults from Israel and Jewish factions. The ongoing war in Gaza and the continual stream of terrible news coming out of the region make it impossible not to write about the power of Israel, which is all too evident these days in both the Middle East and the USA. When the Nazis came to power and started their attacks on the Jewish populations of Germany and surrounding areas, not one country raised a finger to help them. It was decided that this political impotence would never be allowed ever again. The American political scene is dominated by AIPAC, the powerful Jewish Israeli lobby group that has been instrumental in getting anti-Israel American politicians voted out of power. Cori Bush is the latest casualty they have taken out of the equation. They also control the leadership of Congress and hold most of the important cabinet positions, ensuring that political power is firmly in the hands of the Israeli Jewish power structure. They can no longer deny this power because since October 7, 2023, this political structure has been very visible. Wall Street and the media are also controlled by powerful Jewish groups and personalities, ensuring complete control of the country. Anyone that calls this a conspiracy theory is lying to themselves because it can no longer be hidden. When one looks into why this power play took place, one has to look at the millions of Jews exterminated by the Nazis to answer that question. There are only 2 percent of the American people that identify as Jewish, and they also have allegiance to the State of Israel, a country they feel is their last refuge after centuries of racism and discrimination. This kind of strength in unity is not seen in any other ethnic group. It is strong, it is unwavering, and it is not going away anytime soon, so fighting it is, as I said, sticking your hand down the mouth of a hungry lion. Many questions in the Israeli-Hamas war are complex and can only be answered with a reasonably nuanced understanding of both Jewish and Palestinian history. Many other questions, however, are quite simple and the answers are fundamental truths that should be obvious regardless of your ethnic background or political beliefs. Here are a few such fundamental truths: ✔️ Sexual abuse and rape of women can never, ever be justified. Period. ✔️Intentional targeting of innocent civilians and children is a war crime and, in many instances, a form of terrorism. That conclusion does not change based on who does it or why. ✔️Bad acts by some members of a particular group never justify vilification of the entire group, either through racist statements or violent acts. And atrocities committed by one group can never justify atrocities by another. ✔️Acknowledging and empathizing with the human suffering experienced by one group does not diminish the suffering experienced by another group. Human empathy is not a zero-sum game. All people dedicated to basic human decency and international law should be able to acknowledge these fundamental truths. Acknowledging these basic, fundamental truths does not require moral courage--it only requires a modicum of honesty with ourselves. If we do not each undertake that modest effort, the more nuanced, complex issues underlying the historic conflict are easily hijacked by the far extremes on both sides. We cannot leave the possibility of future peace in the hands of those who benefit most from the ongoing violence.

The True Radicalisation We read about the horrors of past genocides and wonder: How did they murder the innocent without feeling anything within? How did they return home, embrace their children, knowing they had slaughtered many others? How did they witness the tears of the innocent without their hearts being moved or their minds awakened? The true radicalisation lies in the process of "othering." Years of ostracising a community, degrading them, highlighting their flaws, generalising, racialising, and dehumanising leads to this othering. It is orchestrated through politics, media, academia, entertainment, and beyond. Today, we witness the outcome of this othering that has been inflicted upon Palestinians for over 70 years. The Palestinian conflict, rooted in early 20th-century tensions and exacerbated by the 1948 Nakba, continues to displace and disenfranchise. Average people make statements like, "But people die in wars" or "What else can the IDF do?" This is the consequence of a society that has been conditioned to view an entire community as the "other." Recognising and addressing this dehumanisation is crucial.

The US House of Representatives just passed a highly concerning and simultaneously subversive "Antisemitism Bill". It overthrows free speech and is clearly designed to ban criticism of Israel. This a testament to the fact that the ruling class in DC and the Israeli lobby are terrified that the truth about Israel is becoming known to a mass number of Americans: how Israel was founded on the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, its racist policies of apartheid, it's brutal and illegal occupation, and now it's genocide in Gaza. It's also a testament to the power of activism, words, and what many of us are doing here on LinkedIn: using free speech to fight injustice, oppression, and crimes against humanity.
