👮♂️ As a Community Corrections Officer, I've learned that effective disapproval is a vital tool in our mission to rehabilitate and reintegrate individuals under our supervision. It's not about being punitive, but rather a constructive strategy for change. Effective disapproval means setting clear boundaries, consequences, and communicating them consistently with our clients. It involves maintaining professionalism while holding individuals accountable for their actions. It's about letting them know that we believe in their potential to change and giving them the opportunity to do so. Why is this important? Because it fosters a sense of responsibility and accountability in those we work with. It can be a turning point in their rehabilitation journey, encouraging them to make better choices and ultimately reducing recidivism. Our role is to guide, support, and empower our clients to make positive changes. Effective disapproval is a means to this end, an essential component of our work in community corrections. Together, we can help individuals rebuild their lives and contribute to a safer, more prosperous community. 💪 Nadine Robinson, Racheal Fullam, Caleb Lloyd, Colin Christie and Kasey Kellet spoke effectively on this during their presentation on FOCUS training in QLD Corrective Services during the PACCOA National Conference yesterday. #CommunityCorrections #Rehabilitation #Accountability #CriminalJustice #PACCOAConference23

From Prison Health Leader to Visionary Entrepreneur: Trailblazing Impact on Criminal Justice and Beyond.
The new diversion program introduced in Travis County to address cases of juveniles accused of assaulting caregivers is a commendable initiative. District Attorney José Garza and law enforcement's decision to provide an alternative to sending these young individuals to prison demonstrates a more compassionate and effective approach. It's evident that the current system often misplaces blame on the child when family conflicts escalate, whereas the Transformation Project aims to restore peace in families and divert children away from the legal system. The adoption of evidence-based models like Circles of Peace is promising, particularly in addressing domestic violence. By involving both the offender and the victim in counseling circles, there is a greater potential for breaking the cycle of violence. While this model has been used for adults arrested for intimate partner violence, applying it to juveniles is a novel and hopeful approach. Moreover, the inclusion of respite centers to keep youths connected to their education and the community is a significant step in ensuring their overall well-being. The success of this program could have far-reaching impacts in reducing future violent incidents and keeping young people out of the juvenile justice system, aligning with the broader goal of addressing the root causes of violence and promoting accountability.
Interested to see the outcomes for this new program in Travis County. Hoping for positive progress.

CN member Prison Advice and Care Trust (Pact): "We received a heart-warming message from a social worker at HMP Styal, highlighting the immense value of our 'Coffee and Crafts' mornings in the lives of the women there, like Louise*. Like many others, Louise doesn't receive visits and often feels the weight of isolation. But we're striving to change that narrative through the New Beginnings project at HMP Styal, funded by the Cheshire Community Foundation. Our 'Coffee and Crafts' sessions provide a safe haven where isolated women can come together and share stories, laughter, and creativity. These sessions aren't just about making pretty things – they're about forging connections and nurturing emotional wellbeing. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Women are forming friendships, supporting each other, and rediscovering hope. Let's continue to break down walls and promote hope and healing." *Name has been changed to protect anonymity. www.prisonadvice.org.uk

An important update for an area of law that is so important and integral. #Childfirst
🚨 Important announcement! 🚨 Today we’ve published the final sections of the YJB case management guidance for England and Wales. The guidance accompanies the standards for children in the youth justice system and is designed to help you to put these standards into practice. 📝 So, what’s new? Out-of-court disposals ▪ revised Child Gravity Matrix ▪ focus on diversion ▪ new info on Community Resolutions and Outcome 22 Custody and resettlement ▪ focus on Constructive Resettlement ▪ personalised approaches to children in custody ▪ helpful distinctions between different regimes and types of establishments ▪ extra support for practitioners, including how to work between different professions 💜At its heart, this guidance is #ChildFirst and recognises that there is no one-size-fits all approach for children in the justice system. This will benefit both children and their communities alike. Please read and share the revised case management guidance ⤵ https://lnkd.in/d_3NHrGi #ChildFirst
