Today is suicide awareness day - a reminder to prioritize mental health, check in with loved ones, and break the stigma around seeking help. No one should feel like they're alone in their struggle. Reach out, listen, and offer support. A simple conversation can save a life. If you're struggling, don't hesitate to ask for help or even drop me a message. Resources are available, and people care. Let's stand together for mental health awareness.

As it is world mental health day. Take the steps to educate yourselves on all the different types of mental health issues we all currently face. Take the time out to ask someone how they are. Tell your friends & family how much they mean to you. Be mindful, show empathy, teach & guide our younger generations to understand the importance of building good strong relationships to empower their futures. It doesn’t take any effort & it literally costs nothing to show someone you care. You never know when a simple hello, how are you? Can change someone’s world.

Social isolation and loneliness impact our overall health and well-being at all stages of life but especially as we age. Right now, one in four adults over the age of 65 are considered socially isolated. This puts them at increased risk of developing a mental health condition. As my colleague Dr. Taft Parsons III highlights below, social media can play a valuable role in connecting us to friends, family and supportive resources. While it’s important to acknowledge the negative impact social media can have, especially on younger populations’ mental health, many older adults use it to help reduce feelings of social isolation and loneliness, especially when physical or geographic barriers limit in-person connection. This #SuicidePreventionMonth, it’s critical that we encourage those around us to utilize mental health resources – whether on social media or beyond – to maintain their mental well-being now and as they age. Learn more below.
We know social media can have a negative impact on our mental health, but when used appropriately can also help connect people and combat feelings of loneliness or social isolation. Although social media comes with risks, it can connect people to their community and also to resources that can support them before and during mental health related crises, including suicide. #SuicidePreventionMonth helps bring awareness to all measures that reduce the likelihood of someone reaching the point of a suicide crisis. And please use this opportunity to check in with your loved ones and familiarize yourself with the warning signs so you can support those around you. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. The truth is that everyone struggles sometimes. It’s important to know that it’s ok not to be ok. Most mental illnesses don’t improve on their own, and if untreated, may worsen over time and cause serious problems.
