The key takeaways from IMO MEPC 81 from the UMAS team - thanks to all the team for an extraordinary two weeks of effort. We've tried to write this meeting up in a way that talks about the opportunities and risks - so you can make your own assessment of the progress, and how best to factor these into your decision making. How steep can you go? In this recent article, WSP’s Steve Rogers and Marisol Valerio discuss with CIM Magazine how an innovative new tool, called 3DPOF analysis, is giving operators a clearer picture of slope stability in structurally complex open-pit mines. Our team’s work in developing this new approach for inter-ramp slope stability analysis, using a method based on discrete fracture network (DFN) modelling, is helping to improve stability assessments to optimize slope design. 3DPOF quickly evaluates complex structural networks and the rock mass component, including pore pressures. The tool can help design steeper pit slopes with greater safety and reliability.
