Starting Burghley as We Mean to Go On: A Toast to Passion and Perseverance This afternoon, we kicked off our time at the Burghley Horse Trials with a chance encounter with friends—celebrating with a spontaneous glass of fizz, as one does at Burghley! There’s something magical about the atmosphere here, where even a casual meeting can turn into a shared moment of joy. The trot-up today was both thrilling and tense, a stark reminder that not all horses will pass and get the opportunity to compete. Riders, horses, trainers, owners, and grooms have traveled from all four corners of the world, bringing with them an incredible amount of commitment, investment, and sacrifice. Burghley is one of the most prestigious equestrian events globally, and it’s a true test of horse and rider—a testament to the deep relationships, partnerships, and trust that are almost beyond comprehension. Having lived near Burghley and with family still close by, this event is more than just a date in the calendar—it’s a cherished tradition. Over the next few days, we’ll be meeting up with more friends and family, soaking in every moment of this unique experience. These notices come amid efforts by the Center to implement significant changes, including potential rebranding and rental agreement modifications. The evictions are perceived by many as abrupt and unfair, particularly as they were issued without a prior formal decision by the Fair Board, which controls the property. This situation has sparked significant concern and frustration among the equestrian community as they face the challenge of relocating their horses and operations.
