FR Space habitats, energy generation & storage, & ISRU -"The French space agency CNES has announced a partnership with Spartan Space, the Institute of Space Medicine and Physiology (MEDES), and the sporting goods retailer Decathlon to develop a European intra-vehicular activity (IVA) spacesuit. Marseille-based startup Spartan Space has been selected by CNES as the project’s prime contractor. Teams from the four organizations began discussions for the project in December 2023 at Decathlon’s research and development centre in Lille. Development of the spacesuit is currently underway, with the delivery of a prototype expected in 2024. The prototype will, according to CNES, represent “an elegant synthesis of expertise and collective innovation.” “With the European ambition to contribute to future space missions with its own crews, France, with its skills and technological know-how, wishes to contribute to this growth by notably offering an IVA (Intra-Vehicular Activities) space suit,” Deputy Director of Exploration and Human Flights at CNES Sebastien Barde explained in a statement. The CNES IVA spacesuit initiative is being carried out as part of the agency’s Spaceship FR project. Spaceship FR was initiated in 2018 as a vehicle to lay the groundwork for future crewed missions to the Moon and Mars in several domains, including habitats, energy generation and storage, and in-situ resource utilization." We were pleased to share the preliminary findings of our #ReBuilt project at the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) conference “Space & Transformation: Living in Harmony with Nature”! 👏   The #BauhausEarth ReBuilt project takes a two-pronged approach at promoting the concept of a #Regenerative built environment around the world: The #Global study assesses the supply and demand of #NatureBased building materials under different transition scenarios while the #Regional study explores locally specific transition pathways in four city regions. 🌎   At the conference, global study researcher Adrian Foong presented novel #SpatialTools used to #Model a global transformation towards a bio-based #BuiltEnvironment. Our research introduces a comprehensive, globally consistent method to estimate residential floor area and material stocks using key building parameters and #Material intensity. The approach developed by our team allows for more rapid, regionally specific assessment and could be used to inform #Policy toward #Sustainability goals. 📈 🌲   In a panel, Georg Hubmann presented the findings of the regional case studies so far, focusing on the question of how to overcome the #Implementation gap in regenerative #Design and #Development. He outlined how the built environment can become a carbon sink – if we manage to more closely entangle #Architecture with its regional resource base and community needs. 🏡 ♻️   We were very pleased to receive feedback on our work so far at the #IOERConf!
