Over the years, say, 2010s up till now, corporations have thwarted the old order of job titles and made them into more appealing flex. A receptionist now goes by the baloney title; Executive Desk Manager. Janitors are well-addressed as Custodial Supervisors. Managers are prefixed with Leads. Secretaries are now Executive Assistants or Chiefs of Staff. I think it’s a norm to have “Executive” as a prefix to whatever title now, makes it sound regal. And then there is a litany of Presidents; Vice Presidents, and Deputy Presidents along C-suite ranks. The corporate world is smart enough to condition titles to stroke egos, you are not just a Copywriter anymore, you are a Comms Strategist, Content Curator, or Content Architect. Ad agencies do the most - there is a row of Deputy Heads, Deputy Deputy heads, and Creative Deputy Heads - (awon olori ebi dem) Titles are a mind game, don’t let them get to your head. HR or is it Talent management eku ise oh.

NOW HIRING: ACCOUNT SUPERVISOR   If you’re a business-savvy people person, this job’s for you.   We’re in the market for an Account Supervisor: a quick-thinking, high-EQ problem solver who can translate effortlessly between the business-types and the creative-types.   We want someone who can balance people, processes and possibilities to deliver top-notch work that’s on time and on budget. Someone who can distill complex business objectives into a concise creative brief that can spark the next high-impact commercial, website, brochure or Instagram post. And, most importantly: someone with such a command over business jargon that they can put a personal touch on even the most mundane emails designed to “circle back” or “close the loop.” Bonus points for demonstrated skills in juggling, plate spinning, tightrope walking, lion taming or other circus-themed business metaphors. You know what we mean.   So if you’re ready to put your strategic vision, interpersonal skills and all-around kick-assery to work, send a not-too-formal email to [email protected]. I have had more than one career. If you know me well, I know, I know, it is an understatement. My career jumps have provided me with a breadth of skills that are hard to match, especially with my particular combination.  I started adding them to my profile, as they make me uniquely me.  I won't list them all now, but after Googling my old business to find a photo, I found this one - whew, it got me thinking. While homeschooling my daughter, I spent a few years creating a balloon business (twisting & decor). I got certified and even won an award. I may have twisted a balloon or two for your child if you are local. The skills I gained or improved in this career: creativity, business administration, contracts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, admin assistant, inventory (so many balloons in our basement - my ex was super supportive of it, too), video editing (I was early doors on YouTube), expenses, taxes, social media, blogging, product development, testing, design, website design, email communications and more. While there were sound and solid reasons for me to close the business, it was a challenging decision, as it is hard to walk away from something that quickly puts smiles on many people's faces.  It has been a long time since I have created a balloon dog, but I know I could easily. That is how skills work, whether it be a balloon bouquet, designing a client onboarding process, or filling out an expense report. If you are hiring and a resume in front of you contains a variety of industries and careers, I encourage you not to toss it aside quickly.
