This article by Krishna Sai (SolarWinds) makes some valid points. I would go a little further because while I agree with the importance of securing the networks of unmanned systems, it is not just because of the need to protect sensitive data and maintain confidentiality. It is critical to the success of military operations in which drones are playing an increasingly important role. Statutory Instrument No. 21 of 2024: Notice made by His Excellency the Governor pursuant to Article 5(1) of the Air Navigation (Overseas Territories) Order 2013 (As Amended) was published as a supplement to the BVI Extraordinary Gazette Issue No. 28 on Tuesday 19 March 2024. This instrument gives notice of the publication of amendments to the Overseas Territories Aviation Requirements (OTARs), first Gazetted in the Territory on 30th March 2015. The OTARs apply to all Overseas Territories and the amendments are to the Title and contents, in order to apply recently adopted international standards relating to Cyber Security in respect of airports and aircraft operators in the Territories. The amended Requirements are cited as OTAR Part 178, Aviation and Cyber Security for Airports and Aircraft Operators, and came into force in the Territory on the date of publication of the Notice, that being 19 March 2024. #legislativeamendments #bvibarassociation

Recent posts i have made about cyber attacks on aircraft, particularly GPS, have been realised in the last week in the article below. This attack involved some instructions which were misleading to the aircrew. The aim was to divert the El Al jet from its destination, the second time an incident had occurred in the past week. This was attempted through the communication network presumably the comms to the pilots. The pilots were suspicious so called elsewhere on another channel. More details will follow and more attempts of this kind will also follow. A risk assessment of this type of event would be good to conduct in advance, with updates for aircrew each day, relevant to attack activity and in what areas.
