Last week, Pesach Lattin, who I consider among our industry's most animated and entertaining personalities, published a 30 minute video podcast, which he and I recorded shortly after the last MFA bombshell and Google's (yet again) delay of Chrome cookie deprecation. The two primary topics haven't lost any relevance in the weeks between our recording and ADOTAT's publication. When I open a conversation here on LinkedIn, I write what I believe and try not to mince words. I stay true to this mantra in our video dialogue, which I hope at least some of you will watch. We had a good time bantering back and forth on a handful of heavy digital advertising subjects, and I have to hand it to Pesach, who makes the conversation all the more entertaining with his clever quips and fast-paced, provocative questions. I became interested in this topic after listening to a podcast and having a conversation with Paul McIntyre back in 2020 (time flies), and it remains an important topic and, interestingly, a passionate topic of mine. Just yesterday, I listened to this great episode from Rocket Agency's podcast (Smarter Marketer) and this quote that David Lawrence 🚀 shared was spot on when it comes to perspective around First-Party Data. “People really shouldn’t think about it as a begrudging thing you do because Google and Meta are changing the rules. It really is an opportunity to think much more deeply about your marketing, what it’s trying to achieve, who your customers are, and what you need to know about them in order to have a relationship that’s valuable to them, which becomes valuable to you.” It’s a topic worth focusing on for all of us in the digital space. A worthy pursuit to understand the importance of First-Party Data and to value building meaningful relationships with customers, whether through platforms and functionality or marketing efforts.
