Healthcare leaders: You must have been asked before...Can the parent join the child on the "rolling bed" for the transition to the OR (or other area requiring separation of caregiver and child)? Can we allow parental presence at the entry of trauma bays? Can we consider alternatives like swaddle and sleep deprive for MRI rather than sedation? It CAN be done. It IS being done. It SHOULD BE carefully considered and not easily dismissed. If you have ever worked with a child life specialist, they have likely advocated for these types of system changes and innovative solutions or they are carefully considering their approach to propose these system changes. If a child life specialist comes to you, or they are within your network, remember: 🤝 they are on your team to ensure patient safety AND satisfaction. 🤝 they are resourceful and patient centered driven. 🤝 their suggestions are rooted in evidenced based practice, they have well thought out plans for implementation that go beyond “the suggestion”. 🤝 they have a huge potential to elevate the level of care provided. 🤝 they are skilled at developing rapport quickly; connect with them, invite them in. If you don’t have access to a child life specialist in your network, connect with us to learn ways we can support ([email protected]). #copingconnection #childlife #childlifespecialist #patientcenteredcare #nursing
Nursing innovation At Kaplan Medical Center, the child is the one in charge in the operating room. Elham Shalabna, head nurse of operating rooms, shared a heartwarming story of a child who decided to have his mother lie in bed with him before surgery. The result? A happy and calm mother and son, hugging and smiling before the procedure. This simple but powerful approach to patient-centered care is a great reminder of the importance of listening to our patients. Kudos to Elham and the team at Kaplan for putting the patient first. #PatientCenteredCare #KaplanMedicalCenter Clalit Health Services Clalit Innovation Clalit Nursing Division #nursing #patientexperience #innovate #nothingaboutuswithoutus

Let’s Talk Tuesday: Navigating the Dynamic Relationship Between RNs and Doctors: A Personal Reflection @highlight As a retired surgeon who has traversed the realms of both nursing and medicine, I find myself reflecting on the intricacies of the relationship between Registered Nurses (RNs) and Medical Doctors. The dichotomy between these two vital healthcare roles is a fascinating tapestry woven with threads of experience, authority, and knowledge. In the realm of patient care, RNs often stand as the unsung heroes with their wealth of hands-on experience and intimate connections with those under their care. Their dedication and expertise are invaluable in ensuring the well-being of patients, making them the backbone of the healthcare system. However, despite this wealth of experience, there exists a hierarchical structure where the doctor, regardless of age, holds the final decision-making power. I have encountered instances where seasoned RNs, brimming with years of experience, challenge the authority of younger doctors. Age, it seems, does not always correlate with hierarchy in the medical world. The doctor, with their specialized training and clinical acumen, is bestowed with the responsibility of making crucial decisions in the patient's care, a weighty mantle that transcends age or years spent in the field. Furthermore, the dynamic between RNs and doctors is not devoid of challenges. Egos and personalities can sometimes clash, leading to friction in an environment where teamwork is paramount. I have witnessed instances where RNs, perhaps feeling overshadowed, resort to belittling behaviors towards doctors based on their age or perceived lack of experience. Such instances underscore the importance of fostering mutual respect and collaboration in the healthcare setting. In the grand tapestry of healthcare, both RNs and doctors play indispensable roles, each bringing a unique set of skills and knowledge to the table. While RNs may excel in practical, hands-on care, doctors bring a depth of theoretical understanding and decision-making prowess that complements the nursing care provided. Ultimately, the relationship between RNs and doctors is a symbiotic one, where collaboration, respect, and a shared commitment to patient well-being form the cornerstone of effective healthcare delivery. It is through recognizing and celebrating the strengths of each role that we can truly harness the power of teamwork in the noble pursuit of healing. #HealthcareDynamics #NurseDoctorRelationship #TeamworkInMedicine #RN #LPN #NP #MD #surgeon #registerednurse #blacksurgeon #blackdoctors #healthcareprofessionals #femalephysicians #blackphysicians #highlightseveryone #EVERYBODY #highlightseveryone
