Though they are just numbers, Anduril Industries’ latest $1.5bn round at a $14bn (USD) valuation illustrates the change that is coming to the defence landscape.
Though many people I respect have disagreed with my decision to work on defence technology, we seem to always come to an agreement that it’s important to change the status quo for the better when it comes to the entrenched role of incumbent defence industry providers.
With capital flowing into the sector and companies like Anduril challenging the way defence departments across the world procure and view innovation, the window of opportunity for early stage founders in the sector is opening.
I agree it is an incredibly difficult sector to gain traction in and many will fail. I agree it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
To many, Anduril may be polarising given the work they do. But they’re also proof to many of us building in defence industry that the status quo can be challenged and there is room for builders and innovators to have an impact.
