Here is something I am doing with my BDE as a CSM in the Army Reserve. As reservists, we are dispersed across the country in relation to our unit, which makes “trooping the line” a bit challenging but not impossible if committed in the right way for the right reasons. As such, distance and time should not keep us from mentoring the future of the Army via technology coupled with command visits. The Green Beret Foundation (GBF) launched the Pineland Initiative on November 10, 2021. This new campaign focuses on expanding the Foundation’s scope of services to include pre-9/11 U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers and their families. The Pineland Initiative, which launched in 2022, reflects a 3-year phased approach to growth and expansion of existing programs and services to accommodate the needs of the pre-9/11 Green Beret population. One key aspect of this expansion is the welcoming of additional Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) onboard GBF staff to meet the anticipated greater need for assistance with the preparation and prosecution of Veterans Affairs benefits and disability claims. These new VSOs will bring with them the added benefit of providing a Foundation presence geographically located at each of the five Active Duty Special Forces Groups, and two National Guard Special Forces Groups, located around the country. The name “Pineland” pays tribute to the shared legacy of Green Berets, past and present. This initiative is well-timed, as the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Army Special Forces will be commemorated this coming June 19th. With Pineland being the first initiative in GBF’s history to support Green Berets of all generations, there’s an opportunity to honor those that laid the groundwork to make the Green Berets the world’s premier, elite special operations force. The GBF is asking that those wishing to support the Pineland Initiative campaign consider making a commitment of support to the Foundation at the amount of just a $12 monthly recurring contribution. #greenberet #specialforces #militaryfamilies #veteransupport #Pineland #greenberetfoundation

I agree that education is not a retention tool and when you invest in the betterment of those who are the foundation for the successes and/or failures of the organization they are assigned to, you see much more successes than failures. The military is a temporary moment in one’s journey we call life and the military is investing in this person to ensure they are capable of adding to the successes of the military’s mission, no matter the branch. You want to have increased retention rates, increased morale, increased efficiency and effectiveness, more patriotism and admiration for military service, don’t look at service members as puppets, numbers, etc., and allow for people to feel as if their impact is greater than how they feel now. Education benefits are opportunities for service members to become a better version of themselves not only as service members, but as people. We can raise our right hand and swear to support and defend the constitution, but when it comes to looking not only on how we can become better versions of ourselves as soldiers, but as human being for our life after the military, that’s wrong and those opportunities are no longer going to be provided? The military is a small piece of the puzzle that is an individuals life and why punish them for realizing they’ve reached their potential within the military and decide to move on from it? If they’ve served honorably, allow them the chance to use TA or CA to set themselves up for success in the next chapter in their lives. I agree with Jonathan Lu that people should always come first because the wars and battles are won on the ground and in the “trenches”, not up in Washington D.C.
