CSX recently hosted a Merit Scholar Luncheon to congratulate the children of our #ONECSX team who earned the prestigious 2024 National Merit Scholarship and recognize their families who supported them along the way. CSX railroaders are some of the hardest working and dedicated employees in the industry, and it's no surprise those qualities run in the family. Congratulations to these outstanding young scholars—we know your futures are bright!

Thank you CSX for hosting the event and making these Merit Scholars feel special. My daughter SriThulya was very appreciative of the event and was excited to meet fellow Merit Scholars and dad's coworkers. Congratulations to all the Merit Scholars and wishing you success in your future endeavors.

    What an inspirational day at the University of the West of Scotland's graduation ceremony in the simply spectacular setting of Paisley Abbey. The highlight of a wonderful occasion was seeing Audrey Cameron, OBE, CChem, HonFRSC receiving an honorary degree from her alma mater. As an undergraduate chemistry student more than 30 years ago, there was no formal support available to her, or indeed any student from the deaf community. Miraculously she not only survived but thrived thanks to the generosity of a handful of fellow classmates who took copious notes to allow her to participate in the learning process across several years of study. Quite how challenging Audrey's journey to a first degree, PhD and post-doctoral role must have been is hard to imagine. But it is also a testament to the kindness of fellow students long before #inclusion was a common phrase. Audrey challenged us all to offer similarly strong support and solid foundations to others who may be facing barriers of all shapes and sizes in their journey through life. As I get ready to transition to a new role at University of the West of Scotland, I was also reminded of the amazing achievements of former colleagues at Heriot-Watt University's #BSL team in delivering the #BSL Act for Scotland that enshrines rights to access for members of the #Deaf community ... and the great work that Audrey Cameron, OBE, CChem, HonFRSC and others continue to do to create the #BSL lexicon that enables research careers in science and other disciplines to flourish. It is a great example of the importance of #inclusion and highlights the ongoing work of colleagues in the EDI Caucus. Safe to say that the graduates raised the roof with their #BSL applause.

    [Challenge Accepted] This week, Ebow HS strolled up to me with this (👇) in his hand. "It's for you," he said, grinning. I immediately knew what it meant -- at least to me. Ebow is one of a mere handful of #SterileProcessing professionals around the globe who hold the FCS distinction (Fellow Central Service) through HSPA, an honorable distinction earned through deep research, commitment, and publication within our industry. And as soon as I took this challenge coin into my hand, I knew what I had to do.
