By David R. Burda - Better check the byline on this blog post. It’s about patient safety improving at hospitals. Yes, I’m the author. I also try not to be a hypocrite. If I write about #patientsafety dropping hospitals, like I did in this monthly column, “Dead Patient Walking,” then I feel compelled to write about it when it gets better...

🌍 World Patient Safety Day 2024: Get it Right, Make it Safe! 🌍 Today, on World Patient Safety Day, we recognise the dedication of healthcare professionals and highlight the importance of accurate diagnosis in patient care. This year’s theme, “Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety,” reminds us that getting the diagnosis right is essential for effective treatment and patient safety. In the UK, the NHS remains an excellent example of universal healthcare, providing world-class services to millions. As patient needs grow, the importance of timely and precise diagnosis has never been greater, ensuring that care is both efficient and effective. 🔍 Why we at medcareworld believe diagnostics in the NHS are crucial: ✨ 🔑 Efficiency: Accurate diagnostics help streamline care, ensuring patients receive the right treatments quickly, minimising delays, and reducing the need for unnecessary procedures. ✨ 🛡️ Prevention: Early detection of conditions such as cancer or heart disease allows for preventive interventions, improving long-term health outcomes and reducing the burden on hospitals. ✨ 🤝 Trust: Clear, accurate diagnoses foster stronger relationships between patients and healthcare professionals, building trust and confidence in the care provided. As we mark #WHO's #WorldPatientSafetyDay, let’s celebrate the incredible role diagnostics play in keeping our healthcare system safe and effective. With the ongoing commitment of NHS staff and the support of patients, we can continue to enhance the quality of care across the UK. #NHS #PatientSafety #WHO #WorldPatientSafetyDay2024 #HealthcareSolutions #GetItRightMakeItSafe #HealthcareExcellence #PublicHealth #Diagnostics

In the spirit of World Patient Safety Day 2024 and the WHO's powerful slogan "Get it right, make it safe!", it is clear that accurate and timely diagnosis is the cornerstone of patient safety and positive health outcomes. While we celebrate the dedication of healthcare workers in providing correct diagnoses, we must also address the challenges posed by self-diagnosis and prescription, especially in areas with limited access to reliable medical information and qualified professionals. The theme of this year's World Patient Safety Day, "Improving diagnosis for patient safety," emphasizes the urgent need to bridge these gaps and ensure that everyone, regardless of location or socioeconomic status, has the opportunity to receive a correct diagnosis and safe, appropriate treatment. Only then can we truly achieve the goal of "getting it right" and "making it safe" for all patients worldwide. #PatientSafety #WorldPatientSafetyDay #GlobalHealth #HealthcareQuality #WHO
🩺 On World Patient Safety Day, the USAID MTaPS Program proudly supports the WHO’s theme, "Get it right, make it safe!", emphasizing the importance of accurate and timely diagnosis for patient safety. Diagnostic errors contribute significantly to preventable harm, and MTaPS is partnering with countries in Asia and Africa to strengthen pharmacovigilance systems and improve diagnostic practices. Each year, 134 million adverse events occur in hospitals worldwide, leading to 2.6 million deaths, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
