Today is World Environment Day 🌳 and we are committed to the healthcare sustainability transformation by continuously improving our processes, products and offering circular solutions. Last week, Arjo presented at CleanMed 2024, a leading conference dedicated to sustainability in healthcare. This was an outstanding opportunity to show how Arjo is helping healthcare facilities achieve their sustainability objectives. One way was through Arjo ReNu, our environmentally sustainable solution for reprocessing non-critical, non-invasive medical devices. The health sector, synonymous with pioneering advancements, is currently going through a transformative evolution catalyzed by the infusion of cutting-edge technologies tailored for medical waste management. Medical waste, a broad category encompassing various items, has consistently represented a tremendous challenge. The intricacy, however, is gradually diminishing thanks to recent technological innovations that are streamlining the management of such waste to not only be more efficient but also sustainable and eco-conscious. Wonderful to see the development of various new Bio based materials on display at MSS Manchester. This collective, showcases innovative and viable biomaterials with their low environmental impact, offering designers alternative materiality for a more sustainable future. The perfect prelude to the evening’s seminar ‘The Real Cost of Sustainability’ which proved to be an emotive discussion. Whilst in eutopia we strive for the triple bottom line, the current reality is greatly tipped towards profit over planet and people. Managing client expectations that there will inevitably be an uplift in costs, brought about by EPD accreditation of materials by suppliers, ensuring we have firmer legislation for positive change so that future value engineering does not become de-valued. Equilibrium will come at a cost for us all to be accountable and act smarter across the industry.
