Two things below that I find super rewarding about my role here at LVI Associates: 📣 Seeing an “I’m happy to share that I’ve been promoted to.. X” post on LinkedIn from a previous placement. ⭐ Touching base with contacts I've worked with from years prior and learning about a recent promotion or exciting transition to a leadership role. Compared to where things were back in 2017 when I first started recruiting in the power & energy space, there's been a noticeable increase in the number of new direct management/leadership opportunities. From speaking with my network & clients, executive leadership teams are a lot more open to engaging with external candidates for strategic leadership hires as well – main feedback being that these candidates can offer fresh new ideas to their business, company culture, growth and taking it to the next level. Sector Spotlight - Energy I live in Alberta - so of course I follow trends in the Energy sector - one of the major economic drivers of our province. Enserva - a national association representing the service, supply, and manufacturing sectors of the Canadian energy industry - launched the Working Energy Portal earlier this year. It focuses on helping to connect energy sector employers with entry-level staff. So many postings on there represent the breathe of opportunities in the Energy sector from field sales, to trucking and delivery, to insurance, to camp hospitality and catering - there are so many different ways to get into the Energy sector. Many of these roles only need a high school diploma and a driver's license as a baseline education. When identifying career options or next job targets, it can be helpful to narrow your search to specific industries and widen your view of the opportunities. A lot of people think of working on the rigs when they think of energy careers, but there are so many ways to get involved in this sector. Get off the general job boards like Indeed and learn about the industry sectors in your local labour market. 1. What are your largest local industries? 2. Does your city or province/state have an associated industry group? 3. How to they promote career development opportunities in that sector? 4. Do they offer networking opportunities or training opportunities? Have you utilized industry-specific professional associations or groups in your quest to make a career change? Some thoughts after a conversation with a potential Solar Construction client yesterday 💭👀 Me: “How long has the Project Manager role been open?” Hiring manager: “2 months” Me: “When was the anticipated start date?” Hiring manager: “Middle of December. We have a lot of upcoming solar installations.” Me: “Why hasn’t the role been filled?” Hiring manager: “I am the one trying to find the candidates and I don’t have time.” Many of my clients are hiring managers attempting to fill their own roles because they do not have an internal recruiting team or their recruiting team doesn’t have much capacity.
