It was an honor to welcome distinguished healers, healthcare practitioners, researchers, and advocates to our Second International Conference on Traditional and Complementary Medicine. As the Director of the Institute for Social and Cultural Research at the NICH, I believe in bridging the gap between traditional and Western medicine for the betterment of our communities. This conference provided a unique platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and the integration of traditional medicine into our healthcare system. In alignment with UNESCO's efforts to preserve intangible cultural heritage, we discussed the importance of protecting and promoting traditional healing practices as a vital part of our cultural identity. We also explored the potential of traditional healing practices as a form of intangible cultural heritage, a means towards economic development, and discussed the importance of integrating traditional practices into the healthcare system. Together, we explored the rich traditional healing practices from across Belize and the region, discussed the challenges faced by traditional healers, and explored potential avenues for collaboration with Western medicine. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this important event and for the valuable insights and connections that were made. The conference was hosted by NICH-ISCR, Namusa Wellness Center, and the Belize Medical and Dental Association. Our sponsors included Belize Tourism Board, Belize Natural Energy Charitable Trust, Print Belize Ltd., United Nations Human Rights, Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, San Miguel Farms, Tropical Health and the Maria Goncalves Pharmacy and Medical Clinic. #TraditionalMedicine #CulturalHeritage #Healthcare #Belize #CommunityHealth #UNESCO

Master's of Marine Management candidate 2024. Continually learning, growing, and sharing my knowledge, skills and compassion to improve a small corner of the world
🌊 *FREE CONFERENCE* Hosted by the Passamaquoddy Recognition Group Inc.: To the friends, partners, and supporters of the Passamaquoddy Bay, (please share widely) "For tens of thousands of years, Passamaquoddy Bay was a place of abundance and a source of well-being. "However, over the last two centuries, the diversity of species, habitats, and populations have been diminished to a point where the ecosystem is out of balance. The rivers, the Bay and the ocean are living systems that require our respect and protection. It is possible to turn things around, but it is going to take passionate people speaking about and acting on the kind of urgent change that is needed. To that end, the Peskotomuhkati Nation at Skutik is hosting Summit of the Bay II, to build on the learnings from the 2022 virtual Summit of the Bay, and to continue to bring awareness and inspire action regarding the urgent plight of our waters and fish. Summit of the Bay II will offer a variety of perspectives on the past, present and future homeland ecosystem health, and actions to assist in restoring our homeland. "Please RSVP today at our website: www.summitofthebay.com, in-person or virtual attendance is possible."

I am enjoying the habit of boosting examples of leadership in action. Perhaps I should use it as a feature in the upcoming newsletter- Words can influence minds but actions build the future. Cheers to a brighter future in cancer care. Breaking News! Great news for Irvine & Santa Ana CA residents and oncology professionals. A new facility is coming to the southern CA region, bringing care options closer to home. Residents, healthcare leaders, and market stats all suggest that this is exactly what the area needs. For those living in the area, this means better options for care nearer to you, without having to drive over an hour for the type of doctor you need. Bringing top-notch care options closer to residents is critical to access and changes how many will experience treatment in the area. It means less cost to patients who travel out of town and pay for overnight stays. It means actually getting the care you deserve for those who are not able to overcome geographical and financial barriers to care in their region. For those working in rad-onc or planning to, and are from the area, you are getting a brand new facility as an option for your career. You can reconsider having to move away from your relatives to get the best job in your field. A trusted name and the best minds in the field are now in your backyard. This will drive oncology professionals to the region for better cost of living, housing, and research opportunities. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing care options closer to the southern CA region in Irvine. Let's celebrate better options for care and career opportunities for oncology workers. #Irvine #SantaAna #healthcare #oncology #careeropportunities #newfacility #healthcaretechnicalstaffing
Today, leaders from across the City of Hope system came together to launch the activation of our new and upcoming Irvine Hospital. It was a historic day as we plan for our second academic hospital in Southern California. Toward the end of the session leaders Annette Walker, Wendy Austin, Annette Morgan, M.B.A., Laura Grant, Dr. Ed Kim and I - took questions from the audience. At the start of the Q&A, there was silence for almost a minute as scores of leaders took their phones out and began taking pictures of the panel. Here is the moment Ed and I realized the audience was actually scanning the bar code above our heads in order to submit their questions - not taking a picture. Our influencer moment quickly evaporated! Thank you to all our leaders who participated. This will be an exceptional journey as we open a world class hospital in Irvine. Your talent, compassion and focus will lead to a place of healing like no other.

Food insecurity is a growing concern across Pinellas County. We are honored to work with Daystar Life Center, Inc. through our #projecttryton initiative. According to Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap 2020 study, which used data from 2018: Pinellas County: - Food insecurity rate: 12.2% (124,430 people) - Child food insecurity rate: 19.1% (38,080 children) Hillsborough County: - Food insecurity rate: 12.6% (178,820 people) - Child food insecurity rate: 19.5% (61,600 children) It's important to note that these numbers are from before the COVID-19 pandemic, which likely exacerbated food insecurity in these counties and across the United States. Feeding America projected that the overall food insecurity rate for the United States could have reached up to 15.6% in 2020 due to the economic impact of the pandemic. #endhunger

Sharing a useful infographic on best practices of becoming a health literate organization. What are you hearing about the reading level? It used to be 6th grade but I have talked to a few organizations that are using 3rd grade.
Family Voices presented on the best practices and the importance of becoming a health literate organization to five demonstration sites across the country as part of the Enhancing Systems of Care for Children with Medical Complexity initiative. Thank you to AcademyHealth and our other project partners for the success of this presentation! Check out what they learned: https://lnkd.in/epbyVGqw
