The European Commission has informed Norwegian salmon producers Cermaq, Grieg Seafood, Bremnes, Lerøy, Mowi and SalMar of its preliminary view that they breached EU antitrust rules by colluding to distort competition in the market for spot sales of Norwegian farmed Atlantic salmon in the EU. The Commission has concerns that, between 2011 and 2019, the six salmon producers, exchanged commercially sensitive information, relating to sales prices, available volumes, sales volumes, production volumes and production capacities, as well as other price-setting factors. The suspected aim of this alleged conduct was to reduce normal uncertainty in the market for spot sales of Norwegian farmed Atlantic salmon into the EU. The alleged anticompetitive conduct only concerns sales on the spot market into the EU, as opposed to sales based on long-term contracts. Spot sales are those for which prices, volumes and other sales conditions are agreed per sale, based on the market conditions on the day of the sale. Norway accounts for over half of the production of farmed Atlantic salmon worldwide and the EU is its main importer. The alleged conduct concerns sales of fresh, whole and gutted Atlantic salmon farmed in Norway, which accounts for nearly 80% of all farmed Atlantic salmon exported from Norway. The alleged conduct does not concern frozen farmed Atlantic salmon or processed products such as salmon fillets, loins, or smoked salmon.

We use CO2 for two different reasons when using a temporary draft system, like a jockey box or jumper box. One is to move the beverage from our keg, through the jockey box coils, to our beer faucet (or tap). With a 50' coil, we need to overcome all of the resistance that coils creates, so our regulator pressure needs to be at 25-30 PSI. This is a temporary draft system. Not a balanced kegerator or professional draft system installed into a bar or brewery. So the PSI needs to be higher than normal. Normal operation in a balanced system is 10-12 PSI. The other way we can use CO2 is to carbonate beverages. Using the high pressure, we can let our beverage sit 24-48 hours, and the beverage will absorb the CO2 and become carbonated. Traders move coffee around to hide aging beans for the last time. Stockpiles of premium coffee beans on the world’s biggest arabica exchange have plummeted to their lowest levels since 1999 as some sellers race to take advantage of a closing loophole one last time. For years, some sellers looking to avoid an “age penalty” meant to discourage lengthy coffee storage have pulled their older beans off the exchange and then resubmitted them for a new round of certification, thereby making the coffee appear fresh. That legal but misleading practice, which has led to roasters receiving older-than-expected beans and obscured the true volume of coffee in the market, will be prohibited as of next month.
