I am not going to train my next team member, and neither should you. In fact, my next hire will be autonomous in one week with at least one job duty. and the systems and team will have them trained in 90 days (about 3 months) without my involvement. I have set up my business in such a way that every process for every client that we work on is captured in an easily digested way. I have captured the systems that make the doing part of my business flow, and I know that any missteps along the way are caught by my accounting supervisor, Bretney Moysset. Having Bretney around ensures that I can spend my time finding new leads to grow my business. The question is: How do we get you to the same point? That’s right, I don’t want you to spend your valuable time training your next employee. It takes a lot of time, and you are bound to leave out extremely specific exceptions and situations. Doing part of our business changes countless times throughout the year, usually because of external factors. A website might update its user interface, or the backend of a shipping company might have completely changed. Instead, I want you to capture the process of doing the work on video. Explain as much as possible through voice about what you are thinking and looking out for as you make the recording. Boom, now you have trained every employee in this current version of the workflow for this job. Then, I want you to have your new employee (or old employee in need of retraining) to record them working through the process. This helps reinforce the training process and will allow you to spend much less time on the training process. If the process of doing the job changes do not go through and record the new videos yourself. You should get out of the doing part as much as possible. What I want you to do is have your team members record a new video explaining what has changed and how to do the new process start-to-finish. As they teach you and the rest of your team how to complete the updated task, they will fully understand the nuances of the updated processes. By having your team members contribute their knowledge to your collection of training resources you create a community of empowered workers that will gladly help you improve the business. I hire people that are smarter than me for this exact reason, and I make it my goal to get out of my business’s way as much as possible. This allows me to keep the big picture in mind and foresee problems that may present themselves in the immediate and far future. Try this process out, and the next time you hire an employee try to get them up to speed and like Clockwork #clockwork #coaching #capturingsystems

🚀 *My Journey as an Accounting Software Consultant* 🚀 Day 4 - July 13, 2023 (Last Year) The training proceeded as planned, and I arrived early. Upon arrival, only a few students were present. We waited for a few minutes before starting with a revision of the previous lesson and a review of some of their assignments. The day's class focused entirely on the sales and procurement processes. I thoroughly explained and demonstrated how to issue various documents such as sales orders, invoices, receipts, purchase orders, purchase vouchers, and payment receipts. The students were thrilled to see the software in action. However, I had to remind them that obtaining a certificate at the end of the training isn't the ultimate goal. What truly matters is acquiring the skills and the ability to implement the software effectively. This is what will be valued and appreciated, not just the certificate. After this, the students were more attentive, and we continued smoothly until the end of the session. Five Lessons from the Story: 1. Preparation is Key: Arriving early ⏰ allows for better preparation and a smoother start. 2. Revision and Review: Revisiting previous lessons and assignments 📚 solidifies learning. 3. Practical Demonstrations: Showing how to use the software with real documents 🖥️ enhances understanding. 4. Real-World Skills Over Certificates: Emphasizing the importance of practical skills 💪 over mere certification. 5. Engagement and Motivation: Keeping students engaged with real-world applications and motivational talks 🎓 improves their focus and learning outcomes. Conclusion: Stay tuned for the next episode of my journey as an accounting software consultant, where we dive deeper into mastering these vital skills. You won't want to miss it 🚀
