After City of Rochester , Ville de Paris 🧐😉 How remove an inner loop like a « périphérique » ? "When we were talking about this project a decade ago, it was in economic terms, pure benefit cost: Remove this highway, generate investment, benefits outweigh the costs by more than 2-to-1." Now, the conversation is "much more socially oriented. What impacts have these highways had on communities? What can be done to reverse that? How do we heal wounds and restore trust?" On top of a $75 million, 90,000-square-foot museum expansion completed last summer, 238 apartments, over 100 of which are for people making between 60% to 80% area median income, and 126-room Hampton Inn by Hilton hotel. A lot of current talk related to public governance is more and more about the concept and the actual resilience of our cities. This book by Frank Lloyd Wright | 1932 is truly open and critical thinking in this regard and should not be forgotten because of its focus on the essence of citizens and their communities. “The principles set forth in The Disappearing City Frank Lloyd Wright’s advocacy of creating cities built to human scale, of planning the open spaces, making possible both community places and truly private places, of decentralizing the structure of our civilization - found their most thoughtful expression in his Broadacre City, an idea that grew from the 1932 book into a highly influential theory of city planning..."

Another great piece this year highlighting what 15-minute cities are (hint, they are the way they used to build cities for centuries before the car) and why they should be incorporated into the planning process. You can check out NLC's piece on exploring 15-minute cities concepts for municipalities of all sizes: https://lnkd.in/eGqeKAm8 #planning #15minutecity #mobility
“The idea of the 15-minute city presents an important conversation on the future of living in urban environments.” Many scholars and practitioners of policy are familiar with the 15-minute city theory, but what exactly does this planning concept entail, and where did it come from? My latest work, featured in Governing, traces the development of the 15-minute city over nearly two centuries, and discusses efforts to make it a reality in cities across the globe: https://lnkd.in/eDGsx2RC
