It's #Bellletstalk day.
A cause marketing campaign that has had massive impact on the financial investment in mental health in Canada and in my opinion opened up a critical conversation.
It has also received much questioning around how Bell is handling mental health inside it's company.
It's also an annual campaign that's been around since 2010!!!! That's an exceptionally long time for a company to invest in one cause area.
Bell should be applauded for that. Applauded for sticking with it even when there has been criticism. Many don't.
It is interesting today to see the focus of their messaging for 2024. One of the elements of this year's program is a clear focus on the organization's that are doing the work. The charities that are recipients of the funding.
(YAY!!! I'm cheering loudly for this! 😁 )
Bell's decision reinforces why cause marketing in partnership with charities is especially powerful.
Bell's smart - putting the focus on where the money goes, where the need is, creates a situation where the focus is on the good this campaign does. And there is no doubt in my mind that it does a lot of good.
Does this mean that Bell is perfect, no. Do I know the degree to which they have invested in mental health internally, also no.
However, I do know that to stick with a cause for this long, commit really big money to it, and highlight charities doing the work to support people with mental health and reduce the stigma is really important.
I want cause marketing campaigns like this. I want corporate investment like this.
And, I hope that inside Bell and other companies change around how we treat mental health is also happening.
Both can be true.
For today, I'm celebrating the investment that Bell has made, continues to make and the innovative, supportive and awesome charities that are doing the work.
What about you?
