We are so used to seeing everyone’s minute of perfection, that we forget that mistakes like this happen more than we know.
In this example, it was the start of the second service and happened right after I fired tracks to start when the countdown video got to six seconds.
As you can see, I had both of my sticks in my right hand, and as I brought my left hand over to grab the drumstick from my right, I fumbled the drumstick to my left.
Luckily, I grabbed the fallen stick and landed the hits into the first song.
Now, although that whole thing was pretty cool, there were some things I could have thought through to help prevent this oh-crap scenario.
The obvious one is I had one or two sticks in the stick holder to my left. By doing this, it would have provided me with a backup to pull from, and I could have picked the other stick up later.
I would have held the stick in my hand or had it prepped on the snare drum ready for me to grab it.
In the end, mistakes happen, and all you can do is learn and grow from them so that next time, the same mistake is more preventable.
I would love to hear from you guys. Has something like this ever happened to you? If so, what did you learn from it? Let’s talk about it in the comments.
Love you, guys. Okay! Bye. 🥁🤓👊🏻❤️✌🏻
