⏰ Stuck in the ER waiting room for hours? It's more than just an inconvenience. ER boarding (waiting for an inpatient bed) can be dangerous. The longer patients wait in the ER for an inpatient bed, the higher the risk of serious consequences, including medical errors, privacy violations, and even death.⚠️ Boarding Times: With hospitals overcrowded due to deferred care during the pandemic, high burnout rates, and staff shortages, patients are increasingly boarded in ERs, sometimes for days. Risks Identified: The Joint Commission has identified boarding as a significant patient safety risk, noting that exceeding the four-hour mark can result in serious outcomes. Advocacy Needed: Patients and families must remain vigilant and proactive during ER stays and after admission to ensure the best possible care. Examples of Consequences: Medical errors, such as missed or delayed treatment, and increased mortality rates have been documented due to prolonged boarding times. The Joint Commission, a healthcare watchdog, recommends a 4-hour limit for ER boarding. Sadly, many wait much longer. What can you do? Get help early in the course of the disease and see your PCP or urgent care before things escalate Be your own advocate: Ask questions and voice concerns during your ER stay. Support change: Share this post to raise awareness about ER boarding and patient safety Let's raise awareness! Share this post to spread the word about the dangers of ER boarding and the importance of patient safety. #patientsafety #healthcare #hospitalcare #ERcare #medicaladvocacy #patientrights #informedpatient #wellbeing #healthcarecrisis #hospitalovercrowding #patientsafety #healthcare #hospitalcare #ERcare #medicaladvocacy #patientrights #informedpatient #wellbeing #healthcarecrisis #hospitalovercrowding #theroadmap #drvahdat #losangeles

Fixing the NHS! It is disheartening to witness inefficiencies in patient care firsthand. Recently, an 88-year-old lady and her carer faced a distressing wait of over 3 hours for pre-booked transport after a biopsy, only to be told that staff were on a break. Who is at fault for this breakdown in the system? 1. Overstretched transport staff in the community? 2. Overbooked clinics in the hospital? 3. Inappropriate referrals causing clinic congestion from GPs? 4. Inefficient scheduling staff failing to anticipate patient needs? 5. Ineffective referral letters lacking critical patient details? These challenges highlight the need for a comprehensive overhaul to ensure smoother patient experiences and more effective healthcare delivery. Let's work together to address these issues and improve the quality of care for all patients. #NHS #Healthcare #PatientCare

Patients are facing long, frustrating wait times while trying to make healthcare appointments. One of the primary reasons is a shortage of doctors across the country—making it tougher to get an appointment and increasing the amount of time wasted in office waiting rooms. In fact, recent data shows the U.S. is short 12,945 primary care practitioners, meaning that less than half of the country's primary care needs are being met! Nurse Practitioners can be the solution to these problems, helping to meet growing healthcare needs while expanding access to underserved areas. Rally with us at the PA Capitol in Harrisburg on April 30 to urge legislators to pass full practice authority legislation: bit.ly/LobbyDay-2024 #PCNP #NursePractitioners #FullPracticeAuthority #Pennsylvania #HealthCare #AccessToCare #PrimaryCare

Alarm fatigue in hospitals poses a serious risk to both patients and clinicians. Healthcare workers are constantly inundated with alarms and alerts—many of which are unnecessary—making it challenging to distinguish between high and low priorities. This constant need to prioritise can prevent nurses and doctors from effectively caring for patients and lead to missed emergencies. The overwhelming number of false or low-level alerts contributes to alarm fatigue, causing serious burnout among clinicians. This not only strains the staff but also results in dangerous delays and missed alarms for patients. Contact Karryn Panoutsopoulos at Connected Health to learn how we can support your clinical staff, ensuring they can provide the best care for patients. #AlarmFatigue #PatientSafety #HospitalEfficiency #HealthcareCommunication #SilentHospital #NurseSupport #DoctorSupport #ConnectedHealth #HealthcareTechnology #PatientCare #ClinicalStaffWellbeing #MedicalAlerts #SpectralinkVersity

I had a chat with a UK-trained doctor yesterday, and I was genuinely shocked to hear that the NHS is planning to let go of a quarter of their GPs. Apparently, it's because telemedicine has been a hit (20,000+patients per day) and people are changing how they visit their GPs. The NHS is also struggling financially, which is pushing them to bring in cheaper staff like associate doctors and paramedics to handle the growing number of patients. This means the NHS is not only undervaluing the specialised skills of GPs; it's about what this could mean for patient care. When you've got a large number of people to diagnose and prescribe for, there's a worry that serious cases might be missed. And then there's the question of accountability if something goes wrong – who takes the blame when surveillance is compromised? This move is putting even more strain on the NHS, and there's a risk that our highly trained doctors might decide to pack up and leave for countries that appreciate what their skill set by years of training. It's a worrying situation for an institution 68 million people reply on it. #NHS #HealthcareConcerns"
