THE ROLE OF A YOUTH MINISTER is not to have, create, or strengthen a group. The Role of the Youth Minister is to strengthen the Network of Parish groups, organizations, and ministries that work with Children, Youth, and Young Adults, then create groups that fit the patterns of vocations needed to serve those within your Parish Boundaries. If you are still calling your youth group a "youth ministry", you have lost the purpose of "Renewing the Vision", which inspired us as Youth Ministers to replicate the PARISH, so that your youth would carry the Church to the Future. Isn't that the reason why we say, "Youth are the Future of the Church", or the "Church Today"? So let's build it... Check out this video that reflects a Parish Youth Ministry would like: https://lnkd.in/emhYVcHn #FaithFormationCounts #RenewYourVisionDHT #BeAnEchoOfTheGospel #RenewingTheVision

It's heartening to see such a vital event shedding light on domestic and family violence. We must unite to support all affected individuals and strive for a safer community for everyone. While it's undeniable that women are often victims, we must also recognise the significant number of male victims who are overlooked. The prevailing system, while aiming to protect women, unintentionally neglects the safety and well-being of male victims. This bias not only fails to provide adequate support but also exacerbates their trauma. Legal frameworks and societal attitudes must evolve to ensure gender-neutral support systems, prioritising the safety and rights of all individuals, regardless of gender. Failing to address this disparity perpetuates injustice and undermines the principles of equality and justice. I dream of a society where everyone is liberated from the shackles of inhumanity and embraced with dignity, compassion, and equality. #StandTogether #EndDomesticViolence #HumanRightsForAll

A film that profoundly impacts me every time I think of it is American Street Kid by Michael Leoni. This powerful documentary shines a stark light on the urgent need to provide real, sustained support for youth aging out of foster care and those affected by the child welfare system. It reveals the heartbreaking reality that many of these young people, often left homeless and vulnerable, are abandoned by the very systems meant to protect them. The lack of critical resources leaves them struggling to survive. This film is more than just a story—it’s a call to action for all of us to push for systemic change and ensure that no young person is left to navigate these challenges alone. One of the most heartbreaking moments in American Street Kid shows Michael Leoni desperately calling shelters and housing programs across the state, only to be met with the devastating reality that there are no available beds or emergency shelters for youth as young as 14. These children, often mislabeled as "runaways," are dismissed as "the problem" rather than recognized as victims of a broken system and programs. This scene is all too familiar in my work today and underscores the profound failures of our housing resources and emergency services. The rising rates of homeless youth in California need immediate action to provide stable housing, financial support, and a reliable safety net. The rising rates of homeless youth in California are alarming, with many being former foster youth and teens from other states, left without support after aging out of the system. I have personally met several during my teens years when I myself was identified as an "unaccompanied homeless youth," and also a labeled runaway. I was pushed out of my programs and told I was better off going AWOL from my "reunifying shelter" because no one would pick me up, or could care for me. This was right in Long Beach, where I walked and found my way to LA on many of occasions, some of the very streets shown in American Street Kid. Where I met many youth in similar situations depicted in this film. Some of them still friends of mine to this day. American Street Kid powerfully illuminates how the system is failing these vulnerable young people, and its consequences ripple through society. This documentary serves as a crucial conversation starter, shedding light on the homeless youth community and the urgent need for systemic change. It’s a film that should be shared and discussed widely to expose that the struggles of homeless youth are not just seen but need to be addressed. We need to really start giving every young person the opportunity to lead a stable, fulfilling life. Here is the link to watch:

Cardboard Citizens and The Big Issue are proud to present a new series of short films, More Than One Story that aims to disrupt stereotypes, generalisations and misconceptions around homelessness in the UK today, as rising numbers of people are unseen, unheard and overlooked. Introducing 3/9 – Ozwald Boateng, If You Must – a story about Johnny, a 40-something Black man on his first day selling the Big Issue, about the colliding consequences of grief, racism and a system stacked against him. By multi-award-winning playwright and Cardboard Citizens Ambassador, Roy Williams, performed by David Olapoju. Directed by Chris Sonnex, Cardboard Citizens Artistic Director and Joint CEO. “Don’t breeze yourself by us, believing that it is just bad luck that I am here, it happens. It happens to us, it could happen to you. We are complicated, same as everyone else. Because all I wanted to do tat day was cry for my father. I told you about my suit yes? That I had a nice suit too. I told you? A good job, banging car” Current statistics reveal the deep inequality of homelessness in the UK, with 1 in 23 Black households becoming homeless versus 1 in 83 households from all other ethnicities combined. The Black community is eleven times more likely to live in temporary accommodation, despite representing only 15% of England’s population. Johnny might be a character, but his experience in "Ozwald, Boateng If You Must" reflects the real experiences of many Big Issue vendors across the country. More Than One Story highlights the multiple realities of hidden homelessness in the UK.
