As the implementation of the EU HTA Joint Clinical Assessment (JCA) regulation in 2025 draws nearer, we continue to reflect on the challenges and opportunities the JCA brings to our industry clients. We will be sharing our reflections each Wednesday over the month of July. With advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) amongst the first treatments to undergo mandatory JCA in 2025, our specialist Rare Diseases team has been reflecting on the challenges that may be faced by manufacturers leading ATMPs through the JCA process, and how these challenges can be addressed with early planning, empowering patients and use of artificial intelligence to aid productivity. As we reach the halfway point of the year, our UK HTA team have been reflecting on the projects they have delivered for our clients in 2024 so far, which includes 18 UK and Ireland HTA evaluations submitted this year already. These 18 submissions take us to the milestone of now having delivered over 200 UK and Ireland HTA evaluations, across diverse fields including oncology, neurology, immunology, metabolic diseases and many more. We are looking forward to continuing to support existing and new clients with their HTA needs for the rest of 2024, and in doing so continuing to impact patients’ lives by helping achieve access to new and important therapies. Alongside the development of the HTA submission dossiers themselves, our Team has provided additional related support, such as HTA-focussed advisory boards, scientific advice support, mock Committee meetings, strategic and technical critiques of evidence generation materials, and HTA gap analyses. We are thrilled to share our recent collaboration with the Centre for Adolescent Health and Social Development (CAHSD), a dedicated Nigerian organisation committed to enhancing the wellbeing of adolescents through targeted interventions and advocacy. In light of the removal of sex education from the Basic Education Curriculum in Nigeria, there has been significant concern regarding its impact on young people's sexual health. To address this, our team conducted a comprehensive literature review on the effects of sex education on young people's sexual health in Nigeria and comparable regions. We summarised our findings in a detailed report, which ultimately supported the development of a policy brief aimed at advocating for the reinstatement of sex education in the curriculum. We are proud to work on projects like these, free-of-charge, that allow us to utilise our expertise to support and empower charities and non-profit organisations. We are excited to announce that our pro bono work for Cure DHDDS on their inaugural scientific exchange meeting in September 2023, was honored at the Communiqué Awards last week! We were winners in the Excellence in Medical Affairs-Led Scientific Exchange category. A huge congratulations to the team! The judges said "Cure DHDDS Inaugural Scientific Exchange Meeting’ is an effective and incredibly important programme in an area of such unmet need. The judges could really feel the team’s passion for finding a cure coming through and were impressed by what was achieved with a modest budget.
