I highly recommend this article to anyone helping customers that have international presence or if they are themselves working in global environments. This HBR article mentions 6 core elements of relationship building which depends on both parties being willing to learn, listen, discuss calmly, share perspectives and support each other in shared goals. Building Relationships! I have noticed this very closely that as people rise through the ranks, their ability to maintain personal connections suffers. Sure, their hands are full as the new role comes with high demands and responsibilities. But still, it would be nice if you could be a bit mindful here. I believe, people who lack social sensitivity are easy to spot—at least for other people. They are the clueless among us. The CFO who is technically competent but bullies some people, freezes out others, and plays favorites—but when you point out what he has just done, shifts the blame, gets angry, or thinks that you're the problem— maybe he's utterly unaware of his shortcomings. Social sensitivity appears to be related to cognitive empathy. Cognitive empathy, or the ability to understand and consider the perspectives and emotions of others is crucial for effective leadership. A lack of this skill can lead to tension and discord, undermining team cohesion and overall organizational performance. So, what can be done to address this issue? 1. Develop Self-Awareness 2. Invest in Emotional Intelligence Training 3. Mentorship and Coaching 4. Promote a Feedback-Rich Culture 5. Lead by Example 6. Foster Inclusive Environments In today's fast-paced and interconnected world, the ability to build and maintain strong personal relationships is more important than ever. This helps in building a positive and productive organisational culture. Let’s make people feel valued, only then will we be able to create stronger and more meaningful connections with our teams.

In all aspects of life, we depend on others. We often must rely on others to help us do our best work. We often read or hear that it is people that make the difference. The real answer is relationships make the difference. In the dynamic environment in which we all work, it is relationships that are the “soul.” It is relationships that are the organizing principle. A successful movement or a successful organization focuses on people and relationships and knows these are essential to getting sustained results. Successful groups depend on strong relationships and fostering those relationships among employees. When co-workers trust each other, they are more willing to open up, take risks and be more creative and innovative. In short, they are more successful and so is the organization. Three things we can all do to nurture relationships: 1. Take a genuine interest in those around you. 2. Recognize and nurture differences. 3. Look for mutually beneficial opportunities. Uncomfortable conversations are the backbone of healthy relationships💥! Ever heard of the phrase, “the elephant in the room”? 🐘 The more elephants you ignore, the less healthy your relationships become. So, why do people tiptoe around, pretending everything’s fine, when it’s clearly not? And most importantly, why aren’t you saying anything? If you know me, you know I like addressing these elephants. It’s not about stirring conflict; it’s about fostering clarity. The truth is, conflict only happens when we lack the maturity to handle difficult conversations. But when we show up with curiosity, listen actively, and work toward resolution, that’s when growth happens. I’ve been in environments where speaking up led to defensiveness and blame, where the culture was more about keeping up appearances than getting real. But the best places I’ve worked and the healthiest relationships I’ve built are where we put the elephant on the table and had an open, honest conversation about it. Great leaders don’t shy away from these talks; they get curious. They invite the team to share, and they work together toward solutions. 🙌 So, if uncomfortable conversations aren’t part of your work culture, it’s time to rethink how “healthy” that environment really is. 🧩 What’s one elephant you could address today?
