https://lnkd.in/eUSf5f7j New blog article "Potential occupational, non-occupational and accidental radiation exposures in industrial radiography using radioactive sources". This is quite a read :) You only have to look at the "IAEA - The information channel on nuclear and radiological events" to see the number of events involving industrial radiography (and medicine). The article looks at both site and enclosure radiography, radioactive sources, shielding, collimation, whole body and extremity doses and much more.

Safety Critical Communications Safety-critical communications are an essential aspect of our daily lives, playing a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals in various environments. From medical emergencies to fire emergencies, effective communication is key to coordinating a timely and appropriate response. One of the most critical aspects of safety-critical communications is the ability to convey information accurately and efficiently. In emergency situations, every second counts, and clear communication can make a significant difference in the outcome of the situation. For example, in a medical emergency, paramedics rely on accurate information from dispatchers to provide the necessary care to patients. Without clear and concise communication, paramedics may not be able to reach the scene in a timely manner or provide the appropriate treatment. Furthermore, safety-critical communications are essential in industries where human lives are at stake, such as aviation and nuclear power plants. Pilots and air traffic controllers must communicate effectively to ensure safe takeoffs and landings, while nuclear plant operators rely on communication systems to coordinate responses to potential safety hazards. In these high-risk environments, any miscommunication can have disastrous consequences, highlighting the importance of clear and reliable communication systems. In addition to emergency situations, safety-critical communications are also important in everyday settings, such as workplaces and schools. In these environments, effective communication can prevent accidents and injuries, allowing individuals to work and learn in a safe and secure setting. For example, in a manufacturing plant, workers must communicate with each other to coordinate tasks and avoid potential hazards. Similarly, teachers must be able to communicate with students in case of emergencies or safety drills. To ensure the effectiveness of safety-critical communications, it is essential to have reliable communication systems in place. This includes using technologies such as two-way radios, mobile phones, and public address systems to facilitate communication between individuals in different locations. Additionally, training programs and drills can help individuals learn how to communicate effectively in emergency situations, ensuring a coordinated response to potential threats. In conclusion, safety-critical communications are a vital component of our society, enabling individuals to respond to emergencies and prevent accidents in various settings. By emphasizing the importance of clear and reliable communication, we can ensure the safety and well-being of individuals in a wide range of environments. Whether in emergency situations or everyday settings, effective communication is key to maintaining a safe and secure society. #Safety #critical #communications #emergencies #prevent #accidents #effective #consequences #safe #secure

White Watch, Attention 🫡👨🏼🚒👩🏽🚒🚒🚑 Yesterday I was introduced to our Mitie #EmergencyResponseServices, a team of FREC Level 3, Full-time Firefighters - and truth be told I wanted to change my job right there and then. Stationed at a facility governed by the Office for Nuclear Regulation, this team are responsible for; 🧯 Auditing, servicing, and maintenance of fire fighting equipment 🔥 Responding to all fire related alarms/incidents ⚠️ First responders to all matters relating to toxic fumes ♻️ Respond, control, and contain incidents of environmental hazards 🚧 First responders and scene management at structural or industrial incidents ⛑️ Respond, assess, and triage incidents relating to personal injury … and so much more. Led by an ex-county fire and rescue firefighter and instructor who served for over 30 years, this station was the real deal with 2 operational pumps, full breathing apparatus, scene management equipment and vehicles, fitness centre, servicing bays, and training facilities. Our ERS operations are supported by further ex-local authority and seasoned industrial first responders who ensure our operations and customers remain compliant with best practice and regulation. This was easily demonstrated by the team who could lay their hands on multiple training records to demonstrate their valid qualifications and equipment service records. We observed a decontamination drill, excellently conducted by White Watch, under the guidance of Watch Lead, Matt. This was the all singing and all dancing #MitieERS standard, but can be tailed back where needed to meet each customer’s needs. One thing we won’t tailor is our commitment to minimum standards which jeopardise the safety of those who represent Mitie and it’s customers. An exceptional experience. Trainer of radiation protection programs in industrial applications (qualified expert) since 2004, Doha, Qatar
What types of training are required for those involved in transporting radioactive material? According to the document, the IAEA Safety Standards Series No. SSG-86 provides recommendations on the training required for those involved in transporting radioactive material. The specific section on training is Section 9 of the document. Here are the key points regarding the types of training required: 1. The training should cover the requirements of the radiation protection programme (RPP) for the transport of radioactive material. 2. Training should be provided to all individuals involved in the transport of radioactive material, including consignors, carriers, consignees, and operators of ports. 3. The training should be designed to ensure that individuals have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their duties safely and effectively. 4. The training should cover topics such as radiation protection principles, regulations and requirements, emergency response procedures, and the proper handling and packaging of radioactive material. 5. The training should be tailored to the specific roles and responsibilities of everyone involved in the transport process. 6. The training should be periodically reviewed and updated to ensure that it remains current and relevant. 7. The training should be documented, and records should be maintained to demonstrate compliance with training requirements. Overall, the training for those involved in transporting radioactive material should provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure the safe and secure transport of radioactive material in accordance with the radiation protection program.
