There is so much potential here with supportive local planning principles for appropriate redevelopment of this Grade II listed asset, including SHLAA recognition. To raze or refurbish? Companies, developers, and councils face tough decisions when asked this question in most UK cities. I can see both sides of the argument with the M&S project in London. From a biased perspective, I may be leaning slightly over the refurbishment side, as that's where most of our work is from. Modernisation has its place, especially if buildings are no longer fit for purpose. However, I also believe that developers are too eager to modernise at the expense of the character of some amazing buildings in these cities. #LinkedInNewsUK

Natural resources to produce construction materials, are finite and we should not be stripping this planet clean, for the vanity of man. Do we need 'flagship' stores rather than simply, stores?

To raze or refurbish? #LinkedInNewsUK The main trouble with refurbishing existing buildings is that is really expensive the existing structure may not be suitable to meet modern building regulations so to demolish and start from scratch is far more cost effective in the long run, it is also much easier to build new and finish with better spaces and architecture to meet modern needs
