Not following up with candidates is not a good look.... A friend of mine has gone through multiple interviews with a company she was really interested in. After the last interview, she sent a thank you email and reiterated her interest. 2 weeks. 2 weeks had gone by and no communication. She asked what she should do. And my advice: absolutely send an email to follow up... BUT... Consider this: What does that tell you? She admitted this concerned her about lack of communication within the company. She questioned the culture at the company. How you interact (or your recruiting firm interacts) with potential candidates leaves a lasting impression. Round one is done, they pass the test, But wait, there's more before they can rest. Round two, round three, and sometimes four, By round five, they're heading out the door. Each new face asks the same old thing, "Tell us why you'd be a great fit for this team." The questions repeat, the answers are tried, The candidate’s patience is fully applied. "Another interview?" they ask with dread, "By the time I'm hired, I'll be long dead!" But on they go, with hope still in view, Through interview number twenty-two. I was halfway through my 76th interview of the month (yes, I really do interview at least 100 people a month!), when a candidate walked in. I smiled and greeted them, but instead of returning the gesture, they sat down and asked, "So, what does your company do again?" I couldn't believe it. 😳 As a recruiter, I've seen it all—candidates showing up in pajamas, people forgetting their own names—but asking what the company does without doing any homework? That was a first. Needless to say, that interview went downhill fast. So here's a tip: Do some research before an interview. Know the company, understand the role, and come prepared to impress. My FIRST HIGHLIGHT for this week: Before being invited for an interview by Liberty Group, the recruiter sent me a couple of questionnaires to answer. Initially, as I reviewed the questions and realized that most of my answers would be NO, I thought to myself, "Girl, you won't make it here". Because some of the requirements needed were lacking in my profile, and I contemplated not bothering to answer those questions. However, my inner voice advised me to answer them truthfully.
