📅 Ahh Q4 is here, and Q4 is synonymous with crunch-time, closings, corporate tax, and (in law) curtailing catastrophe. 💡 Alliterations aside, before the onslaught begins, here are 7️⃣ ways you can use this weekend as preemptive reprieve to posture yourself for a move during / after the Q4 rush. 📜 Update your Resume: Simple, and not-time-consuming if done periodically. Use this weekend to add any new experiences, diversified matters / cases, increased autonomy, and other in-demand skills and proficiencies to your CV. Plus, if you've recently taken on or left a position, be sure that's reflected. 📊 Update your Deal Sheet: For my transactional folks, its easy for the hustle-and-bustle of LOIs, Due Diligence, Closing Docs, and ad-hoc Entity Formation to take priority. And they should! Once the dust settles, keep your Deal Sheet current with all recent transactions- regardless of size, scope, or degree of involvement. 📈 Pro-Rate your Billables and Project your Bonus(es): If you're in a billables framework and your Bonus is tied to production, pro-rate out this year's production to gauge what you anticipate to bill in Q4. From there, determine how that ~should~ affect your Bonus(es). This will give you a sense of your take-home come Dec 31, and how that may impact the timing of your lateral. 📚 Compile your App Packets: Track down that official Law School Transcript. Source 3x stellar Writing Samples (ideally, 2x that are non-redacted or publicly-accessible, and are directly related to the area in which you practice / wish to specialize your practice; that last 1x can be a "personality piece" from Law Review, Firm Newsletter, Bar Association blog, etc. that shows your flair and passion outside of the office). With the "Big 3" of Resume, Transcript, and Writing Sample in hand (and Deal Sheet if transactional), you're already armed to hit submit on nearly every application- and are ahead of the competition. 💼 Licensure Paperwork: Nobody likes paperwork. Everyone finds excuses to push off paperwork under the auspices of "triage." While you have the time, get a jump on those UBE / Continuous Practice waivers and Fed Court Admissions. Your future self will thank you for doing the hardest part now (simply starting). 🎯 Market Map Cities, Firms, and/or Practices to Apply: Identify where you want to target your applications, and do so strategically with both cyclical hiring periods and practice area demands in mind. If you're looking for insider and expert perspective on this, I am here to lend a hand! Plus, most of us went to law school to avoid math, so I'll gladly suffer the self-inflicted headache of number-crunching for you! 🍁 Go for a (Long Walk): Seriously. Life is hectic enough as it is, and now this post is essentially assigning weekend homework. Take a breather, stroll through your favorite park or down that scenic trail, bask in the autumn bloom before the leaves fall, and allow yourself the grace to disconnect.

🤔 "Why work with a recruiter on my lateral search? No, seriously, why?" This question begs an answer in our hyper-connected online world of persistent headhunters, dead-end job postings, and one-off conversations. While brevity and concision are my two Achilles Heels, respectively, I want to succinctly answer that "why" here: 🤐 Confidentiality: No flags raised. No requests for referrals from people that could tip off your search. No mass-blast submissions without your express consent on each job. This process is strictly confidential, dictated by your terms and criteria, and as aggressive or as tactful as you wish. Your name, resume, and identifiers will never be shared without your greenlight after an informed discussion. Allow me to do the market probing while you can stay incognito. 🗣 Advocacy: Pivot candidate? Gap in your resume? Stretch between the role's required exp and your actual exp? I cover all of this (and more) with hiring parties, addressing potential roadblocks proactively but candidly, and ensuring that a simple scan of your resume doesn't disqualify you from the role (which is often the case in self-submits to postings). 🤝 Preexisting Relationships: Two points here. 1.) Similar to the above, we work directly with hiring personnel with whom we have established lasting relationships built on trust and effectiveness. In turn, our clients value our word. 2.) Those relationships mean unposted roles, which means access to jobs you otherwise wouldn't see. 🏎 Fast-Tracked Application Processes: Jump the line. Avoid the bottomless pit of public postings. Eliminate the word "portal" from your vocabulary (as that's my solemn duty to painstakingly fill out!). Instead, you'll be presented in front of hiring parties ASAP, speeding up the application->interview->offer/hire timeline exponentially. 📈 Market Insights and Knowledge: We pour through data, comb over internal reports, and constantly scour the web. In turn, we know what's hot / what's cold, who's hiring / who's slowing down, and how to best capitalize on in-demand practice areas and opportunistic windows in cyclical hiring schemes. These insights will be shared with you, directly and strategically, from a team of JDs / Attys who know our immediate market and the profession at-large. 🏝 Never an Island: There's an awful lot "we" in this post, right?
