We are passionate about making sure we teach all our learners about #WaterSafety & the risk of drowning at every opportunity ... often in a fun way, at a level they will understand, that makes the key messages memorable! The #WorldDrowningPreventionDay motto is "Anyone can drown, No one should" and as drowning is one of the leading causes of death in under 24 year olds we are proud to be able to educate our learners about both the potential dangers & how to survive if they do find themselves in a challenging situation. It is so important everyone understands, at a minimum, what #ColdWaterShock is & how it can be prevented, and the power of knowing how to #FloatToLive ... Do you? One of the core things we teach our learners, as early as possible, is how to float on their back & why a star float is so important... especially if they were to find themselves in danger / unexpectedly in water. ... just like one of our demonstration dolls is doing here 😊 #DrowningPrevention #WDPD #DrowningPreventionDay Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK #CoreAquaticSkills #AquaticSkills #LearnToSwim #SwimSchool #LoveWaterSafely #WaterConfidence #FloatToLive RNLI STA (Swimming Teachers' Association)

Part six of our educational series with Karen Baildon: Did you know that over half of the kids starting in grade one have very limited drowning prevention skills and basic swimming skills? There is another 25% of children who hold no drowning prevention skills. That's a staggering 75% of our four and five year olds that do not hold lifesaving, self saving, drowning prevention skills. Did you know that for every drowning fatality, there is another 3 to 4 children admitted hospital for need drowning incidents? These numbers terrify me. We know that our under-fives are the most vulnerable in our community for drowning. We have an obligation to make sure that our under-fives are learning self saving drowning prevention skills. Efficient Wealth giving BACK So I had the absolute privilege to captain an Aid-Station at this year's MAC MAC ULTRA. So what is the MAC MAC ULTRA exactly? It is a community-based ultra mountain trail run hosted in Sabie, and run by Fresh Trails. As a runner, you have the option to run 25km, 46km, 50 miles, 100 miles and 200 miles (yes you read it correctly...200miles or 320km). What do these extreme races need? A well run aid-station approximately 15km apart. This year I decided not to be a participant, but rather give back in the form of an aid-station captain. So what does an aid station do: - Give support to runners in the form of food and hydration - Give emotional support to runners who want to quit - Be an alarm for the 200 milers taking a nap - Managing the runner's safety With less than 30min sleep over 3 days, I walk away from this year's Mac Mac Ultra as a fulfilled human being. We need to give back, more than we receive. Having family and friends join us for a fun-filled few days, made it even more worthwhile. Thanks MAC MAC ULTRA!! #trailrunning #ultrarunning #efficient #efficientwealth #givingback

Teaching children how to swim and be safe around water is one of the most important life skills parents can help their children learn. Research shows that participation in formal water safety and swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning among children one to four years of age. Water acclimation not only saves lives, it builds confidence. Watch as Tanisha witnesses this firsthand with her children Maya and Jordan at the Y. May is Water Safety Month, learn more ymca.net/watersafety https://loom.ly/RmqVqac
