What is the biggest challenge when you want to migrate from your old PowerCenter ETL to Talend Cloud Data Fabric ? 1 - The cost of the conversion : One mapping to one Talend Job is at least 4 or 5 days, you don't have the documentation, the PowerCenter developer is gone and you want someone who speaks both languages : it's expensive 2 - The duration of the conversion : 4 or 5 days per mapping, plus non-regression testing. 1 or 2 years for 400 jobs ? it's 4 years with 1 FTE ! 3 - The risk for the conversion : PowerCenter has very specifics features, it manages null like nobody else, it's convert without any notice from 1 type to another type, it's agregates data like nobody. The Dynamics lookups, the all-matches lookup, the File as Command, etc. it's a nightmare. But there is one preferred way : konvertilo. We've built the tool to convert, automatically, the mappings that are 'compatible' with our engine (and we improve it daily). Don't by shy. Contact me and I'll tell you more. Hervé/CEO

Over the past few years, companies have been looking to simplify their IT landscapes. That often means cutting costs—sometimes on personnel, sometimes on equipment, but very rarely on software. That’s where we’ve focused our efforts. We’ve developed a converter to migrate PowerCenter mappings to Talend. This conversion is partially automatic (over 80% of data flows on average) and partially semi-manual: we retain most of the mapping logic and replace certain components with generic ones. The automatic part? It’s fully automated. Contexts, connections, metadata, UDFs, variables, parameters—everything is handled automatically. We’ve ensured compliance with TMC naming conventions and optimized performance. We’ve worked hard on this. So what’s next? Bringing to Talend Studio the components that are critically missing for any integration project: disconnected lookups, dynamic lookups, uncached lookups, ranks, full outer joins—in short, all the functions we’ve developed in our Java library but that could rightfully be standard components. Stay tuned, we’re moving quickly in this direction! #DataIntegration #Talend #PowerCenter #Innovation #konvertilo #conversion #ETL

Creating a mapping in #Informatica PowerCenter involves several essential steps. First, launch Informatica PowerCenter #Designer and connect to the repository by providing your repository #credentials. Create a new folder in the Navigator pane to organize your work. Next, define your sources and targets by using the Source Analyzer to import or manually create source definitions, and the Target Designer for target definitions. Who knows what "MAX(IIF(MAX(PORT > 2), 0, 1))" does in PowerCenter? We do! And we’ve developed it within our Java library that accompanies our conversion projects from PowerCenter to Talend Data Fabric. This complex aggregate function enables advanced calculations and conditional aggregations in a single expression. In this formula: • The inner MAX() operates on each individual row to evaluate the condition PORT > 2. • The outer MAX() applies to the group defined by the GROUP BY clause. Since this functionality isn’t available with standard Talend components, we’ve implemented it in our Java library, kLib, enhancing the capabilities of our converted projects. Interested in how this can optimize your data workflows? Feel free to reach out!
