What an incredible journey it's been over the last 11 years. Worth every bit of effort, energy and resources it's taken to get here! The greatest reward is NOT in any financial benefit, or status, it's being able to have an impact and influence on changing the lives of others for the better. Helping people to live happier, healthier lives through proper exercise and nutrition, in a supportive, positive, nurturing environment. Learning how to start and grow a small business requires so much effort, and includes the following: 👍 Have a customer first mindset 👍 Be an authentic and strong leader 👍 Engage in the community you serve 👍 Focus on people! Build the best staff that embraces your values and has all the skills and desire needed to serve others. 👍 Focus on the numbers! If you are not familiar with how to read and assess a P&L and balance sheet, get the help from a professional! 👍 Be willing to do whatever it takes, and then some... 👍 Mindset - your belief in yourself and your abilities, as well as being able to overcome all adversity that comes your way In the health and wellness space in New Jersey, I am very confident that we would not have survived the COVID pandemic (being closed for over 6 months then significant restrictions over the next nine months), had it not been for all the attributes listed above. Community partners are so critical to advancing our work. Something I have found so inspiring about Birds for Sofia is how personal each donation is and how our donors can know exactly who and what their donation went to and how powerful the impact of their money can be. Here are some cool stats to end the year out: 1. We have helped over 270 kids from Ukraine and across Europe this year! 2. We have helped 8 children and their families resettle to the US from Ukraine to get life-saving treatment. The cost for treatment for these 8 kids in Europe would have been over $16.8 million out of pocket. We have only spent just over $90k here in the US for all 8 kids combined. 3. The mortality rate for these 8 kids is 95% before age 2. But with this treatment, they can live normal, happy, healthy lives. 4. Just in Q4 2023, the medication, equipment, and rehabilitation we have provided in our Aid to Ukraine program has added over 159 years of life to these kids.

There is more to consider than your final arrangements when thinking about your death. Who gets your comic book collection? Where do you want your clothes donated? There are so many small things to sort out that take away from your loved ones time to grieve. The kindest thing to do is to take time to consider these things and pick a hand full of people you trust to execute these plans for you. Give them one last chance to show their love for you.

Some humble pie. One of my weakest character flaws is taking things TOO personally, especially when it comes to support of what we do at Blood Origins. I don’t know of a CEO/Executive Director in the same position, but I receive emails every morning from our donor platform of folks cancelling their support. The last couple of days have been especially tough in that regard. Every cancellation I take personally - what did I do? What did we do wrong? Could we have done more? Am I working hard enough? We are a non-profit. Non-profits operate off of the generosity and belief of others in us. We need funds to continue to do what we do. All we ask for is “the cost of a cup of coffee” a month. Most decide to give more than that. If you want to support us you can find the link in our BIO. I would be humbled by it. If you think we can do things better DM us, I’ll personally answer it (again pretty unique to non-profits in our space). Know this … I love what I do. It’s incredibly meaningful. The human body can overcome so much. It can beat disease, create life, build community, and adapt to circumstance. From a young age, I have been fascinated by the potential of humans, particularly when facing adversity and challenge. The intersection between biological, psychological, and intangible influences yields new discovery and breaks limits on a daily basis. After studying human performance for years and building a professional career that has taken me around the world, I have learned that there are no limits to our potential. Our bodies and minds come together to build purpose and transform trajectories. We are capable of nearly anything. EVERYONE is capable of making a difference. In just a few days, I will become the Executive Director of Mobility Worldwide. It is an organization built on the idea to help people reach their full potential and has created a community of hundreds of people around the globe who are dedicating themselves to this organization’s mission. I am so grateful to now be a part of this community and we will collectively push forward to continue delivering products that help people access opportunity and overcome limitations.
