Built in 1984, the eight-story, 901,000 sq. ft. MassDOT State Transportation Building required energy upgrades for improved operational efficiency to advance closer to #decarbonization. Arch Energy—Consigli’s energy division—and our Design-Build partners performed an energy audit and energy model to develop and implement the Building Energy Project’s scope that is now underway within the occupied building. Supported by $1.8 million in utility incentives from Eversource Energy, the improved operations are expected to save 10,100 MMBtu in direct steam use, 4.4 mkwh in electric savings and 2,303 tons CO2e in greenhouse gases annually. The project includes installing improved LED lighting, adding a wireless network lighting control system, upgrading existing variable air volume (VAV) boxes to direct digital controls (DDC) and upgrading air handling unit (AHU) controls to DDC. Arch Energy’s self-perform controls team is implementing the upgraded controls system. Consigli was recently honored by Engineering News-Record New England in its annual recognition of the region's best projects with the Award of Merit for its work on Williams College's Davis Center. The Davis Center, a collaborative space that serves as the College's hub for the advancement of institutional diversity, equity and inclusion, underwent comprehensive energy retrofit renovations to the 19th century Rice and Jenness Houses and delivered a major new addition complete with fully accessible community spaces for students and faculty. To support the College's commitment to sustainability, the all-electric Davis Center was built to rigorous environmental standards and utilized a #masstimber and engineered wood hybrid structural material for the addition. The Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) is a key cultural hub in downtown Durham, hosting 600,000 guests annually for its 200-plus performances. The Consigli team recently refreshed the outdated dressing rooms, restrooms and green room, offering modernizations that enhance visitor and performers' experiences, while preserving the existing artwork and autographs from past cast and crew that decorate the theater's back of house. The renovation work required meticulous planning, coordination and execution to minimize disruptions to DPAC's other ongoing construction projects. After a flood damaged Union College's Reamer Campus Center, Consigli delivered, on an accelerated timeline, extensive renovations to Upper Dining Hall, Dutch Hollow and the Reamer Auditorium. This heavily trafficked area on campus required extensive logistics coordination and communication with the Union facilities team to minimize disruption to student and faculty activities within the occupied building. In addition to delivering a complete overhaul to the culinary experience for both Upper Dining Hall and Dutch Hollow, Consigli also modernized the auditorium space with intricate millwork and installation of state-of-the-art acoustical treatments and new AV systems. With the recent completion of the Reamer renovations, as students arrive back to school this fall, they'll be greeted by a fully upgraded and restored hub for student life on Union's campus. The University of Massachusetts Amherst Computer Science Laboratories will not only provide students with new, state-of-the-art facilities for learning, but will also support UMass' commitment to carbon neutrality through the use of #masstimber. The installation of the sustainable structural material is being managed by Consigli's own self-perform craftspeople. Once complete, the facility will prioritize low-energy use, minimize fossil use and serve as a model for higher education campuses pursuing carbon zero initiatives. #GenuineBuilders

Through meticulous historic preservation and extensive adaptive reuse, Consigli helped transform, from-the-ground-up, one of Washington, D.C.'s oldest synagogues into The Lillian and Albert Small Capital Jewish Museum. "This was a challenge, not only in terms of restoration but also in relation to the addition of structural systems and the creation of the water-tight environment needed for incorporation with the Museum. Careful restoration efforts ensured the synagogue could achieve appropriate museum standards, making it possible to create exhibition space on the first floor of this historic structure, and an engaging audiovisual exhibition on the second floor."
