Freelance museum professional - exhibition and programme development, audience research & strategic planning
Question for the #museum & #heritage hiveminds: can you recommend any audience research into the motivations & reactions of visitors to historic houses? There was an excellent study by Cadw (Barriers to visiting heritage sites 2022) and the equally excellent paper by Aileen Peirce ( “It Feels Like You Have Stepped Back in Time” 2020) but other than that I can find next to nothing. #museums #audienceengagement #visitorengagement #visitorexperience #audienceresearch

How should we deal with non-European artefacts in European museums? What does an appropriate restitution practice look like? The next webinar of #Mission21 is coming up! https://lnkd.in/eUeT77dc
In the next #webinar #Mission-#Colonialism Revisited” provenance researcher Isabella Bozsa and Cultural Studies scholar @Kokou Azamede will be discussing the “#Colonial Looting of Cultural Artefacts" and the role of missionary societies in collecting cultural artefacts from colonial contexts. Swiss museums house countless objects, plants, animals and human remains acquired under dubious circumstances during the colonial era. Should non-European cultural artefacts remain in Western museums today? What does an appropriate restitution practice look like? And how should the legacy of missionary collections be treated? A lesson for modern museums: A far better way to compensate for past mistakes is to educate people with historical and scientific information, rather than patronizing them with mythology masquerading as fact.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis : Dear friends, as Greeks we are surrounded by history and as Greeks we are acutely aware of the importance of that history, which is why evenings like this matter. Because as custodians of Greece’s ancient history, the preservation, protection, and promotion of Greek antiquity isn’t just important, it is inviolable, a duty and a commitment never to be broken. Yes, that means that part of my mission as Prime Minister is about ensuring the return of Greek artefacts to Greece. But it also means that I have a duty to ensure that in doing that, these collections are also available to as wide an audience as possible. https://lnkd.in/duAV7PdV

Napoleonic cultural heritage is the topic of this full day symposium that shall bring together cultural heritage institutions, museums and battlefields as sites of memory. I shall be chairing Session 1, with some of Europe’s top museums in conversation, guided by these two purposely chosen questions. The first - Who owns Napoleonic heritage, what memory or memories does it represent and for whom do museums conserve, present and interpret it? The second - Is there a European narrative in Napoleonic history and, if so, how can museums reconcile that with the national narrative they usually engage with? By asking such broad questions we shall hopefully be engaging in more deeper ways with the European dimension of cultural heritage and consensual curation as a tool to reach this goal. If you are interested, do reach out on email [email protected]

More than 3,000 years ago, Neter-Nekhta, an Administrator of the Eastern Desert and Overseer of Agricultural Lands, passed away. His passing offers us a unique window into the spiritual and cultural practices surrounding death and the afterlife in ancient Egyptian society. Dr. Stan Florek from the Australian Museum explores ancient beliefs and the journey to the afterlife: even when we might see things differently today. https://lnkd.in/g8FutGjF #AdventureWorld

What a wonderful, comprehensive video. One of our Recovery Café Hamilton County members so enjoyed participating in the recent Aspire Indiana Health run/walk at Conner Prairie. We and many local nonprofit organizations benefit so much from collaborations and partnerships with Conner Prairie. We’re excited to Reflect Forward together.
