The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) Africa Cup of Nations, my favorite tournament aside from the World Cup, is nearly upon us. The tournament, hosted in Côte d'Ivoire, promises to be full of thrilling matchups and unpredictable upsets. In preparation for AFCON 2024, CAF has made a variety of unique commercial moves, while also investing in a future-oriented strategy with the addition of partners such as PUMA Group, Visa, and TECNO Mobile Global . The creation of the CAF Partners Club and the securing of IMG services aim for future commercial sustainability, as do broadcasting deals agreed with beIN MEDIA GROUP and New World TV, an intriguing deal keeping African broadcast money in Africa and aiming to provide more tailored content to audiences on the continent. CAF is entering a new era of commercial innovation and opportunity, and with the game across Africa ripe for growth, AFCON 2024 could well be a turning point for CAF and African football.

The Nigeria Super Eagles may not have secured the championship title, but the financial outlook is positive as they are set to receive N5.9 billion ($4 million) as the runner-up prize money. Despite their 2-1 defeat to the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, in the Africa Cup of Nations final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium during the 34th edition of the tournament, the financial reward is noteworthy. According to the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), the winner, Cote d’Ivoire, will be awarded $7 million for their triumph in the TotalEnergies AFCON Côte d’Ivoire 2023. “The Runner-up of the TotalEnergies AFCON Côte d’Ivoire 2023 will now get $4 million. Each of the two semi-finalists will receive $2.5 million and each of the four quarter-finalists, $1.3 million.” The President of CAF Dr Patrice Motsepe said: “CAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the Prize Money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions. “We have increased the Prize Money of the AFCON Winner to USD 7 000 000 which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON Prize Money. The Africa Cup of Nations Football tournament starts today in Ivory Coast or Cote D'Ivoire 🇨🇮. This is the second time Cote D'Ivoire will be hosting the tournament. Till February, 11 2024, football fans are in for a good time. Football thrills many. Even in America, soccer may not thrill a majority but what they call football there drowns the sorrows of almost all folks. So, for clarity's sake, my post is about the type of football that has a World Cup! This year's tournament is the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. Cote D'Ivoire has splashed over a billion dollars to ensure the tournament is a comfortable, exciting, and thrilling experience. The Confederation of African Football (CAF)- Africa's football authority, postponed the tournament last year to 2024 because of the adverse weather conditions in Cote D'Ivoire. The first AFCON tournament took place in Sudan in 1957 and only 3 countries participated; Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia. This year, 24 teams will be participating. Senegal are the defending champions having defeated Egypt at the 2021 edition finals played in Cameroon. However, Egypt remains the most successful team in the tournament, having won the title a record 7 times. The best #AFCON ever? 🇨🇮 Everyone has been looking to Babi for the last few months. Today marks the launch of the 2024 Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) edition. (initially the 2023 edition) 💸 A lot of investment has been made over the last few months to promote the tournament. For those who don’t know (shame on you), the tournament will take place in the Ivory Coast between the 13th of January and the 11th of February. The upcoming #AFCON 2024 is more than just a football tournament; it's a pivotal event showcasing African football's increasing economic significance. This year's edition is marked by heightened commercial revenues and enhanced promotion budgets, reflecting the sport's growing appeal. ❌ Yet, there's an unaddressed aspect: the limited communication around the Women's AFCON. Yes, there is also the Women's AFCON in 2024 but no communications about it. Worse! The date for the tournament hasn’t been announced yet. Enyimba goalkeeper, Ojo Olorunleke is the sole representative from the NPFL in the tournament. South African Premier League has the highest number of representatives with 12 players followed by Egypt which has 8 players.
