Our 2024 McHugh Award honors Saunders Construction and its work in the community. Deeply rooted in their local communities and operating with their core values of Care, Commitment, Collaboration, and Community at the forefront of everything we do. Saunders launched the Building Confidence in Kids (BCiK) program 15 years ago. It was designed to create a formal outlet for volunteerism and community impact with local non-profits focused on the support, well-being, and development of children. In 2022, Saunders selected Colorado Dream Foundation as our two-year partner, allowing our BCiK program to support Colorado Dream Foundation’s mission through fundraising and volunteer opportunities. “Our employees have enjoyed hosting social events, field trips and site tours at our construction sites, and fundraising at our annual clay shoot,” said BCiK Chair Jill Bubenik. “We are honored to work alongside Colorado Dream Foundation to build this relationship over the last couple of years and look forward to supporting future dreams in the years to come!” Established in 2010, the McHugh Award recognizes individuals or organizations with a deep commitment to the Colorado Dream Foundation that have made exemplary efforts to level the playing field in education, as exhibited by its namesakes, Jerome and Anabel McHugh. For 2024, we have named Saunders Construction for its commitment to our youth over the past two years through its Building Confidence in Kids Program. During this time, Saunders took our youth on field trips, including the Denver Aquarium and a behind-the-scenes visit to One River North as it completed construction. We are grateful for all that was done for us and look forward to a continued relationship.

Creative ways of philanthropy have been proven to be more impactful. Collective giving or giving circles are one way for individuals to strengthen their connection to their community by collectively learning and making strategic grants. 💙 Participation in these types of groups often leads to deeper individual connection to the community in the areas they care about. A recent study shows that participation in collective giving has grown to 4,000 groups, contributing over $3.1 billion — more than double their impact in the past seven years. ACF's Giving Network has granted over $2.5 million and expects to grant another $500,000 later this summer to support children and families in the region. By leaning into education and camaraderie, this type of philanthropy is a great way to get involved and learn about the pressing issues in your community. https://lnkd.in/dwsxrxDC

Our project. In a powerful display of unity and purpose, our community recently came together with one primary agenda: to select their most prioritized project. After a series of thoughtful discussions, it was unanimously decided that renovating the secondary school would be our focus. This decision marks a pivotal step in addressing some of the most pressing issues facing our youth. The need for this project is undeniable. At the beginning of this year, our community embarked on this initiative in response to alarming rates of high school dropouts, teenage pregnancies, and drug abuse among our young people. These issues have been exacerbated by the fact that the nearest secondary school is approximately 15 kilometers away. This significant distance has proven to be a major obstacle, contributing to the challenges our youth face daily. By renovating the secondary school, we aim to create a more accessible and supportive educational environment for our children. This project is not just about improving a building; it’s about investing in our future and providing our youth with the opportunities they need to succeed. As we move forward with this initiative, we call upon every member of our community to lend their support. Whether through volunteering, donating resources, or simply spreading the word, every bit of help brings us closer to our goal. Together, we can create a brighter, more promising future for our children. Let's unite for our youth, for education, and for a stronger community. Through our collective effort, success is within reach. Here is the current situation of the school.

#CapacityBuilding presents unique challenges and opportunities, particularly when compared to the #nonprofit sector and #philanthropy. Witnessing foundations recognize and embrace their significant role with earnest responsibility is inspiring. I am particularly proud of how some of my clients in philanthropy are stepping up to this challenge with remarkable dedication. One notable example involves a philanthropy client that traditionally limited #grant #application invitations to select grantee partners. However, in a commendable shift outlined in their latest strategic plan, they acknowledged the potential barriers their previous approach posed to broader community engagement and its need for alignment with foundation goals. From now on, they've decided to open grant applications to all—an incredibly encouraging move (due to confidentiality and cannot reveal the foundation's name confidential). My client's transition to a more inclusive grantmaking process is a proactive step in philanthropy. By prioritizing the voices of community members in decision-making, foundations can better understand and address areas where capacity building is most needed. This approach not only strengthens the community but also demonstrates the true essence of philanthropy. 👊 👏 🎊 #capacitystrengthening #organizationaldevelopment

It's important for us to understand these generational differences and adapt our strategies accordingly. Let's continue to work towards making a positive impact in our communities and beyond. #philanthropy #givingback #generationaldifferences
