As we see more layoffs in Trust and Safety, I am reminded of the importance of our work just by looking at the Taylor Swift deepfake saga. This past Wednesday, X/ ex-Twitter went viral for the barrage of AI generated images showing Taylor Swift in uncompromising and inappropriate positions. Most of the images were in violation of X's content policies. Now Taylor Swift is considering legal action after the images have been reposted 24,000 times and viewed by over 45 million people. Taylor's army of Swifties have been reporting any accounts or posts still sharing the images in the hopes of wiping the platform of these images. Imagine the young woman who does not have the household name, money, or power to have sexualized deepfake or real images of herself removed from a platform. What army of fans or followers does the average person have to report on their behalf? This is why having teams of content moderators, Trust & Safety Analysts, policy managers, and other various support staff in-house matter. These are individual contributors who champion the average users who have no recourse for protecting their own safety and dignity. They work tirelessly to track and investigate emerging trends, threat indicators, and suspicious accounts so that everyone can continue to have a safe experience online. They work closely with product teams to build safeguards to help prevent bad actors from shaping the voice of the platform. Online safety for women, minorities, and marginalized people alike starts with the strength and guidance of a company's Trust and Safety team. Without it, platforms like X will continue to be used to promote hate and disinformation. #trustandsafetymatters #onlinesafety #deepfake #taylorswift https://lnkd.in/dEMyuxEF

A Facebook update that gets my tick of approval! 👍 Have you ever gotten a community standards violation warning on Facebook before? And you weren't quite sure what it was about? Facebook used to expect but realised that users simply don't know every single policy, so the company just introduced a new 'warning and education experience for first-time offenders.' "We know everyone makes mistakes. That's why we're rolling out a new feature focused on educating — not punishing — most first-time Facebook Community Standards violators. Starting with Professional Mode users, this new training will help people learn from their mistakes rather than immediately incurring a formal warning." Mark Zuck Do you think this will curb bad behaviour and improve the experience for all or just make more noise? Why the photo.... I've been wanting to use this one for ages... It seemed loosely connected and no doubt I got your attention 🤣🫢 Sorry, not sorry Greg Hind #facebook #socialmediatip #facebookupdate #meta #socialmediamarketing

3 months away from partial vesting of shares in Facebook. Noah Kagan was hire nunber 30. He was fired. You would think that the loss of a $100,000 career, plus the loss of Facebook shares, would make you feel bitter, sad or a failure. But not Noah and not us! Because, our destiny isn’t always what we intended. Noah went on to create an 8 figure business where he was hire number 1. Life doesn’t always follow the plan but if you stay around long enough you’ll learn that there is one. It might not be an 8 figure business. It might be a humanitarian cause or the beginning a new career. Trust the process, keep moving forward as circumstances beyond your control change your plan. Save your energy for things you can control.

Ugh the cognitive dissonance of logging onto LinkedIn to see a shit ton of your recently laid-off ex-colleagues reminiscing about their lost VMware jobs, while the same talking dummies, that *just* flushed the company down the gutter, continue with their babbling posturing about leadership. Good grief, if you don't have enough courage or shame to resign, couldn't all of you at least keep quiet for the moment? For folks laid off... consider making a list of people to never to work for - posers, career snakes, yes-men and cheap parasites that sucked the life and energy out of otherwise capable technical orgs. It's funny that Broadcom's idea of "cleaning up" include firing talented and passionate contributors with proven technical leadership, while the middle/upper management swamp is here to stay.

Are you keeping up with the Congressional hearings featuring Big Tech Execs? The press continues to play a clip of Zuckerberg apologizing to an audience of parents, friends & family of those who have been directly harmed by the unsafe practices of FB and other #BigTech. We're seeing this clip on repeat across news channels... But if you're a parent of a child that has been personally harmed by the unsafe environment that Zuckerberg grossly profits from, you're unfazed by his apology. In 2009, a young software engineer named Brian Acton walked into Facebook's headquarters for a job interview. Despite his impressive background at Yahoo!, Facebook rejected him. Acton's response? A simple tweet: "Facebook turned me down. It was a great opportunity to connect with some fantastic people. Looking forward to life's next adventure." That “next adventure” would change everything. Just months later, he co-founded WhatsApp with a mission to create a simple, ad-free messaging service that prioritized user privacy📱💬 By 2014, WhatsApp had 450 million users, and guess who came knocking again? Facebook. This time, with a $19 billion offer🤯 Acton’s share? A cool $3.8 billion. The man Facebook rejected became one of its biggest success stories. So, the next time you get hit with a “no,” remember – that might just be your setup for something greater. Because Rejection is not the end; it’s often the beginning. Keep pushing, keep dreaming🚀✨ #mondaymotivation #whatsapp #motivation #nevergiveup #keepgoing
