Building High Performing Teams, Driving Sales & Revenue Growth, Market Research, Product Development, Ex-Slice
Great read from Kara Reinhardt. For graduates looking for a job right out of high school where they can rise through the ranks quickly, the top employers are Chipotle Mexican Grill, Lowe's Companies, Inc.'s and Walgreens, according to the American Opportunity Index. The new analysis aims to highlight opportunities for those not pursuing higher education — about 4 in 10 of this year's graduates. Retailers dominate the list, and banks and insurance firms are also prominent. While entry-level roles at these companies provide growth potential, they often come with lower pay and high turnover, Axios notes. Analysts looked at career trajectories for almost 5 million workers, using publicly available work histories rather than data from employers. Other high-ranking companies include Foot Locker, PNC, Gap, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Best Buy, Chewy and Starbucks.

Is your retail organization focused on everboarding? This is a topic of increasing importance, as today’s retail talent pool is searching for jobs that will invest in their development and growth. During MOHR Retail’s recent webinar, I dove into this topic with our panelists. Take a look at some of the takeaways below: ▶ Lisa Anderson (She/Her/Hers), Division Vice President of Optometry at EyeCare Partners, shared that when it comes to individual career-pathing and growth plans, they use a variety of training formats, including microburst training to hands-on experience and focus time with a mentor. This approach has proven valuable from a retention standpoint and in helping drive more internal promotions. ▶ Mike Van Lente, Executive Leader of Learning & Development at Whole Foods Market, noted that they offer a development program to prepare high-potential team members for each leadership role in a store, from associate team leader (assistant manager) all the way to store team leader (general manager). ▶ Career-pathing isn’t just about moving into leadership, though, as Van Lente pointed out. Whole Foods also offers apprenticeship programs that are designed to build specialized skills and knowledge, creating a pipeline of artisan talent to fill different roles across the specialty grocer’s departments. In all, retail organizations need to focus on varying pathways for team members to create advancement and increased income opportunities. By investing in an everboarding approach, retail organizations will improve their opportunities to recruit and retain the top talent. How has your retail organization invested in everboarding? #LearnMOHR #RetailTraining #Everboarding

Determination is all that matters.
I am grateful for the favorable outcome that has taken place for me after nearly four months of living in THE LAND DOWN UNDER. I'm happy to share that, after a path full of obstacles and drive, I've been able to crack a casual job with McDonald's! As an international student, finding any casual/part time jobs is a challenge. Though we might think it's easy-to-get job here, since we have work experience from where we come. It's absolutely not true. It has not been easy for an overseas student to enter the workforce in a new country, even for me it wasn't easy. Despite rejections along the way, this seems like a big step forward, starting a basic (but not so basic) job here while facing multiple setbacks along the road. I can emphasize how difficult it may be for overseas students to find casual or part-time work, particularly in retail or fast-food industry. Nevertheless, every hurdle has strengthened my desire to keep moving forward. To all my fellow international students (to the past, present and future) facing similar barriers, remember that every little accomplishment is cause for celebration. No matter how small or how big, every step forward moves us closer to our goal. Grateful to the people who have been a part of this journey along with me. I'm tremendously appreciative of this chance and eager to contribute my abilities and energy to the McDonald's team. Cheers to fresh starts and seizing any chance that unveils itself! 💼🌟 #GlobalStudent #Determination #NewStarts #Internationalstudent #jobopportunity #drive

Free your brand, and the rest will follow! | The Big Brand Geek that takes the brand you are dreaming of and makes that sh*t real!
It was supposed to be beer money. But working at Tesco shaped so much of my career. I was just out of art college with a shiny certificate and a lovingly prepared portfolio to my name. The greatest 3 years of my life all wrapped up in a leather zip-up case. People weren’t exactly throwing pound notes at my feet as a fresh-faced student with no work experience so I did what all degree-level students do with their hard-earned qualifications… Get a job in the supermarket. With no intention of sticking around longer than I had to, but with an inherent belief that if you’re doing something you may as well do it well… I got to stacking those tatties. It was tiring, laborious work that certainly allowed me to tell people I was now working out but despite the dull nature of the daily tasks, it taught me something all young people should really benefit from. How. To. Graft. The money was rubbish. The hours were rubbish. The customers were…. Throughout my career, I’ve often looked back on my time in the fruit & veg aisles and credited it with my continued resilience and work ethic. Did I want to work with the general public in supermarket mode forever? No. I won’t even dress that up. Did that experience teach me more than all my years in education about how to succeed in business? You bet it did. How did your early experiences shape your career?

I help businesses increase profit by aligning product visions and roadmaps with customer needs and market trends to drive growth and maximize ROI | Certified Scrum Product Owner | Product Management | Agile & Scrum |
My first job here wasn’t glamorous—it was at Tim Hortons, a survival job. It didn’t take long for me to realize I wasn’t learning or growing. So, I made a move to retail sales, and within months, I was promoted to a Manager position. Then came another leap—joining a startup where I truly found my stride. Each of these steps, no matter how uncertain, taught me more than endless planning ever could. Because I used to think success was about endless planning and perfect timing. However, I realized that the key to getting started is to stop talking and start doing. Taking action, even small steps beats overthinking every time. Back when I was an international student in Canada, I learned this the hard way. So here’s my advice: Take that first step, no matter how small. Because real growth happens when you move from planning to action. You’ll never know what you’re capable of until you take that leap. What's one action you can take today to move closer to your dreams? (If you want to take the first step in your job search, fill out this form: https://wkf.ms/3URO454) #growthmindset #jobs #beingagile #internationalstudents
