Dear Contract staff intending to become a full-time employee, Your days as a contract staff are days to show and prove yourself worthy. They are preparatory and formative years for your career and how you handle them does matter. Within this time, do the following: 1️⃣ Establish viable relationships with those who can guide you into what the full-time staff do. Get as many learnings as possible. 2️⃣ Create a learning schedule for yourself; if it would require working extra hours, please do so. This would give you a soft takeoff whenever you eventually get inducted into the system. 3️⃣ Prepare well for interviews. Do not assume you know all that there is to know. Zero yourself in on the most unlikely and likely questions you may be asked. A lot of hardworking contract staff have missed opportunities because of poor preparation. 4️⃣ Don’t get too familiar with people especially those ahead of you that you disregard them or sideline their input to help you. You need as many sponsors in your career arsenal as possible 5️⃣ Have the qualifications in the bag. Prepare yourself for what you desire and pray for. Opportunity should always find you ready. I have seen people move from factory operatives, and casual or contract staff to becoming departmental heads. It’s all about the foundations you lay during your little beginnings. I’ve got some ideas as a HR why employees are leaving.. Sorted out 6 different service periods and 6 different reasons for quitting! 🚶♀️𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝟏 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇 Reason: HR and the team 1. Confusion about the company's training process. 2. Not able to communicate with colleagues/team. 3. You are left to struggle on your own after joining the company. 4. Feel insecure about the management of the company. 5. Not being developed by the company for new employees. 🚶♀️𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝟑 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐒 After 3 months in the job, the employee finds that there is a disagreement with his supervisor's values, management style, work objectives, and work style. 🚶♀️𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝟔 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐒 Reason: Company's culture The company can't provides equal treatment of employees, learning opportunities, so that your dreams and the company's goals combined in order to achieve a win-win situation for personal development and corporate development. 🚶♀️𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝟏 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑 Reason: Salary After a year of doing the job, the employee already has contributions, networks, and resources and wants to consider whether the pay is now equal to what is paid. Still talking about money and not heart for the company. 🚶♀️𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝟑 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒 Reason: Development After 3 years, with a certain level of experience, seniority, ability, and salary, you will consider whether there is still potential for you to develop in this company, whether it will help you in your future development, and whether there are better platforms and opportunities outside. 🚶♀️𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝟔 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒 To some extent an old employee with more experience and networks is satisfied with their current position and income unless a better offer is made, it is riskier to quit on your own. #observe #analyze #cultureofwork #leaves #HR

After 15 years in this gig (HR consulting), I can truthfully and honestly say, it's the variety that keeps my brain engaged. I am absolutely NOT cut out for a job where I do the same things over and over and I really admire those who are. I am, however, cut out for a huge amount of variety. Just this week (bearing in mind it's only Wednesday!), I've been: advising on when a trainee is an apprentice (and when they're not); planning a disciplinary hearing with a client who's just had enough of some bad behaviour by an employee; putting the finishing touches to my webinar I'm delivering tomorrow on the positive duty to prevent sexual harassment - an extra obligation for employers to know about; promoting my webinar by sending emails to my network; overhauling a client's recruitment process, working closely with Siobhan who is our guru for all things recruitment; counselling a client on how to handle a situation where they've been asked for a reference BEFORE the employee resigned (oops, awks!); writing a memo for a client's team about smoking breaks; advising a client about how to work out whether the contractors they use are truly self-employed; trying to head a grievance off at the pass; and more! And that's just the work-related stuff. There may also have been some online shopping opportunities in between that little lot (come on, it's Halloween soon and I just don't have enough cute little velvet pumpkins to decorate the entire house!). Variety really IS the spice of life.
