Cheap wind, cheap solar, cheap batteries, cheap electric vehicles are still a mirage.   ✅𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲? Get into net zero will require a dramatic expansion of the electrical grid. Any future net zero economy will be much deeply electrified than today, maybe 3x more. Is it a pessimistic thought to anticipate the shortage of cables, transformers, etc? “𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯”. ✅𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐬? Each electrical vehicle uses 6x more minerals than an equivalent internal combustion vehicle. Enormous amounts of Cu, Al and others will be needed to build out all the new transition infrastructures. Some studies already foresee that in 2040 the minerals consumption will be 5x more than it’s used today. ✅𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬? It seems there is a general idea of some political and social inertia. Isn't it? However, as a passionate for the subject, we have to believe that all these issues are not show-stoppers and each of them can be overcomed with the right leadership, focus, innovation and resources.
